Crash when creating pdf on Mac after installing Ver 21.1.23

NGSoftware Pty Ltd Is a company registered in Sydney, a city on the east coast of Australia. I suspect Lubos spends some time there.

Ries,
Apologies I thought you were responding from Manager support.

I’m using a MacBookPro (Retina Mid 2012) 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7.

As for Aussie I’m based in Western Australia and as the company company address is Sydney - east coast of Australia, even though Lubos does not sound Australian I thought he was based in Australia. Apologies if assumption was incorrect.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Tut,

I have just installed Manager V21.01.27 onto a different machine which has never had Manager.io installed on it previously so completely fresh installs.

System Version: macOS Mojave 10.14.1 Mojave
Model Name: MacBook Air
Model Identifier: MacBookAir6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 1.3 GHz

I then downloaded Northwind Test file in case it was my data file corrupting the Manager.io and to my surprise the same errors resulted.

Cannot print a file nor create a PDF. Also cannot create a Backup. No backup file is saved.

I then installed my Backup of Businesses from MacbookPro which also produced the same errors.

Can you please look into this further, thank you in advance.

@Damien_C, I already have looked into your complaint to the full extent of my ability to do so. I do not have a Mac with an operating system as old as either of yours. I do not have access to your system preferences and setup. I have tested both the PDF and Backup functions on my Mac. They both work perfectly.

Of the thousands of Mac users of Manager, exactly two have reported an issue like yours. That does not mean there are not more. But unless any problem with the program can be replicated, the developer will not be able to address it.

@Damien_C check the latest version (21.1.29). I’m not able to reproduce the issue but I changed a few things so the generating PDF works slightly differently which should fix the issue.

Hello lubos,
Thank you for looking into this problem. Firstly Mac version (21.1.30) was the file available for download (expect it was typo). Still unable to print a file, Nor create a PDF program shuts down. Same error screen when printing as as in post #16. Program closes when creating PDF after dot scroll the right of the PDF button.
Also cannot create a Backup File. No backup file is saved anywhere. Checked Downloads and Desktop. Same screens when creating Backup as in post #16. No option as to where to save to is provided.

As it appears to be an issue with the way Mojave handles Manager, The previous Version worked perfectly. Is it possible to revert back to 20.10.95 or 20.9.62 or 20.9.61 not sure which one I was using as I did not save DMG file or the old version.

I have a similar problem with printing and PDF generation. To make matters worser, I am unable to revert to my previously working business using the previously working version of Manager (20.10.93) on MacOS High Sierra (10.13.6). Having complete my year end accounting I decided it was the right time to update to Manager 21.1.30 but I get the same “There is application set to open…” error. This was the same for 21.1.20. Using 20.1.10, I had to revert to the old business due to a change in file structure error. However the imported business crashed with an internal Manager error.

So I reinstalled Manager 20.10.93 but on opening this version I didn’t even get to select a business as Manager immediately gave a similar error:

I removed all businesses in case something had been written to them as part of the updates but even with no businesses, Manager 20.10.93 gives the internal error above.

Any suggestions?

You could try updating your MacOS I had the same problem when I tried a fresh install on 2013 MacAir (see post #23). Same errors resulted so i upgraded macOS to Big Sur V11.1, the down side is some of the applications don’t work unless upgraded - some upgrades are free other costly $$$. Now Manager works perfectly again on the MacAir. I haven’t done my macBookPro (2012) as Catalina is highest upgrade allowed and an upgrade is a last resort due to the cost of replacing Software. Investigation shows several applications will no longer work. So I’m waiting to see if there is another option as I would like to use desktop version of manager.io.
As a work around alternative I registered for the Free 1 week Trial Cloud Edition of Manager.io online. I installed my Backup files and everything works fine without errors.

However I prefer to use the desktop version as I can use anywhere without needing internet access.

I have made some progress. By removing (renaming) Manager’s local user folder on MacOS (/User/name/.local/share/Manager), I was able to run (v20.10.93) and import back my business. Printing works as previously without issue. I then ran Manager 21.1.1 and it worked too.

However, when I installed 21.1.10, with no manager folder, I was unable to import my business as Manager crashed without issuing any error. The only sign left by Manager was an empty Manager folder. It appears that something significant changed between these two versions.

I would gladly upgrade to a higher MacOS version but this is the highest version my 2012 iMac will support. I might just have to stay with this old version until I can afford a new computer. I am holding out for an M1 iMac sometime soon, hopefully.

Hi dram,

Do you keep copies of the old manager.dmg files, I don’t have copies of my old ones, are they obtainable?

It seems that my computer is very slow or it took manager a long time doing something. I rechecked the user folder and found 2 files; the business and a size file. This is different to 20.1.1, which also includes a 00000000000000000000000000000000.manager file. I suspect this information is included inside the business file now, so maybe that is a clue as to when things changed with printing too.

I will try downloading successive version of Manager to see when things change/break, but not tonight. Only at most 8 version to try…

I do keep copies of the Manager.dmg file together with the business backup. However, past releases are available for download from Manager.io · GitHub.

Hello lubos,

I have determined that the errors began occurring from Ver 21.1.7 onwards by using a backup from Oct 20. Ver 21.1.6 does not produce the errors. Now my problem is my latest backup has been created with the Ver 21.1.27 from (/User/name/.local/share/Manager) and I am unable to open in Ver 21.1.6 as this is prevented by some check.

Any ideas?

@Damien_C when you click PDF button in the latest version, do you get any error of any kind other than crashing?

Hello lubos,
Scrolling dots result to the right of the PDF button, then the page whites out and program shuts down. Producing this page

I am unable to print a file. and Backups still fail to be produced.

Can you post more complete error screenshot? This doesn’t contain anything meaningful.

It is 39 pages would you like me to drop into a word file and email.

@Damien_C this error has enough. Don’t need to see the rest. Can you test other functions such as attaching file and then clicking on the attachment within Manager to view it?

Not sure what you mean?

Add attachment, then try to open it within Manager as per this guide: Attach supporting documentation | Manager

I have attached a file clicked to open it. I am unable to remove, it fills the whole page can’t get back business pages. Okay now Ctrl Q just removed it back to business page. Attachment is showing as attachment to invoice.

I have never used this function as yet. How do you close the attachment once opened without the program shutting down.
