Unable to open attached PDF via desktop

I am unable to open any PDF attachments directly from the desktop version of Manager. I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, currently running version 24.12.27.2000 but the issue exists in both this version and the earlier version I was running.

If I make a back up and try on another PC, the attachments open fine. On this PC I see the attachment, if I move the mouse over it, the cursor changes to a hand and the color of the attachment name changes, but clicking does nothing.

But there appears no solution.

If I right click on “Receipts” and select open in new window, Edge opens and from there, if I click an attachment it opens as expected. So the browser is working fine, it’s the desktop that’s not working.

Is there a way to open into the browser version immediately? That could at least save me the headache of right click and open in new window.

Or is there a solution to getting attachments to open? I can’t find any setting, it’s only this one laptop that is having issues. It’s an HP running Windows 11.

First try changing the default in Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Change Default by file type > .pdf > choose [Microsoft Edge].

Sorry, should have put that in my 1st post. I tried that already, default was to open in Adobe, changed it to use Edge as the default and it made no difference.

Manager desktop on a windows machine uses Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime to browse Manager’s data.

Try another browser by right clicking on a link and choose open in another window. This will use your default browser.

Your issue with your edge installation is likely to be edges open pdf settings.

Edge is the default browser, that’s so far the only way I could open the PDF attachments.

Open Desktop version
Right click Receipts - Open in new Window
Edge opens
Click on PDF attachment, opens just fine.

Opening PDF’s outside of Manager works fine with Edge as well, I can try with Chrome, but I suspect I will get the same results.

What I may look to do is uninstall Edge WebView2 Runtime and then reload that.

I didn’t find the error you had on the Manager with the same version as yours.

Some things you may be able to do:
Make sure your attachment file has a pdf extension.
Reset all default App Setting in your windows

Reinstalling the Desktop Manager may help.

Reinstalled Desktop Manager, it was one of the first things I tried after taking a back up (taking that back up onto another laptop, attachments open fine).

They are definitely all PDF files.

I’m going to try a couple things, once I get it figured out will post what worked in case someone has the same issue.
