Search returns empty despite multiple records containing the search term!

Hello, it’s quite strange why the Search function finds no records and returns empty when I search in say Expenses or Sales Invoices account when I can clearly see that there exist records containing the search term (e.g. Taxi or Discount) in the Description field of quite a few records.

Search works fine for some other keywords and I cannot find a pattern or reason why it works OK for some words and not for others!

Any clues or ideas?

I’ve just upgraded to the latest version v25.10.25 but encounter the same problem!

Thanks.

Can you demonstrate using a screenshot so it can be reproduced?

Here they are. 1-Search for Taxi returns empty. 2-At least one record with two lines having keyword Taxi in description. … Thanks.

Hello @light,

You cannot search Line Descriptions directly from Expense Claims tab – or any other tab for that matter.

You can, however, go to Expense Claims > Expense Claims - Lines and do your search from there.

Also, you should make sure that Description field is showing, if not, you should go to Edit Columns and check :check_box_with_check: Description field

That should work

Thanks @Ealfardan . I tried that but still does not work.
Note that whether with your method of searching in “Line Descriptions” or just simply in Expense claims tab that I was doing originally, search for some keywords (in Description) works OK and returns the records containing them, but for some other keywords it does not (like Taxi, Uber, …). It’s quite weird.

I took the time to try to reproduce your issue on Manager Desktop version 25.10.4.2873 and manually created a transaction with the keywords “Taxi” and “Uber” in bothe the Description field as well as the Line Description field:

These were the results when searching Expense Claims tab:

And these were the results when searching Expense Claims - Lines:

Having done this, two questions come to my mind:

  1. What Edition and Version of Manager are you running, including your Operating System

  2. How did you get the terms “Taxi” and “Uber” in you description? Manually typed, copied, or imported? I say this because I suspect that there might be some invisible characters messing up your search

Thank you @Ealfardan for taking the time to test it. I have also done further tests and the issue seems to be that Search function does not search the description text in the line items, while it does search the Description heading of the record. And obviously nothing to do with the actual words, be it taxi, uber or whatever else.
E.g. in your test, if you change your heading description to something other than Taxi - Uber, then your search for taxi or uber will return empty, while you still have those words in your line item description.
In my attached screenshot example, the search function does not search the yellow highlighted texts, while it will search the green highlighted description text.

I could be wrong (as I haven’t used Manager for a while) but I thought that Manager used to did search the line items texts too  @lubos am I correct? Has the search function scope changed with the newer versions, or my assumption is wrong?

Thanks!

I was just about to place this post under bugs, but then I realized that I didn’t actually activate Line description field from Expense Claims - Lines > Edit Columns

So I did

And now I can search line descriptions:

That’s it, thank you so much @Ealfardan ! I have ticked Lines description now and the search works fine :slightly_smiling_face: :folded_hands:
Earlier I could not see the option for Line description while in Edit Columns because it does not show up if one is not in Expense Claims - Lines mode.

So, now I know that the Search only searches the visible columns in the selected view, and not the underlying database records.
It all works now :+1: … thanks!
