Reorder Top Tabs

Sorry. New here, but noticed the top tab functionality doesn’t allow for reordering (drag and drop, etc.). I’m not referring to the left panel, for which I’ve seen previous posts (with which I also agree), but the top tabs. I was attempting to order the top tabs in order of frequency of use and/ or operation and realized they seem to remain in the order of their creation.

I’m a former software engineer (30 years) and am guessing the code for something like this would be rather minimal compared to the benefit it might offer. I’d think you could call the same or similar routines used in the other reordering operations through the right click menu already established (Move Left/ Move Right, Beginning/ End, etc.) or other event trigger. Even writing a new code base should be fairly straightforward with an indexed array, etc.

Just my two cents.

Great program, by the way!

I drop my penny here: With your experience, I would have expected a more disciplined argument. You do not know from the outside that this is a minimal change, and “indexed array” is not a serious answer to the real work involved.

You also skip over the main trade-off: in core UI, consistency is often more valuable than customization. It helps people learn Manager, and it should make documentation (is trailing because of so many code changes as a result of the Agile application development approach taken) and support far easier. That is why stable navigation exists in so many mature applications.

So yes, ask for the feature, but stating as if it is plainly easy to build and clearly beneficial does not make the case stronger. It just turns a preference into an unsupported claim.

If you insist.

It’s your program. Do what you want with it. I was just trying to help in a conversational tone.

It is not, I am a user like you and decided to respond equally conversationally.

Manager is a web server app. Even the desktop edition can easily be run with multiple tabs in a browser. Download a web browser or, better yet, create an account (Chrome and Edge have this feature, and I’m sure Mozilla does too). Each account keeps its own record of favorited pages and browser settings.

All you have to do is create one for managing your business and use that profile whenever you need to use Manager accounting software. This gives you the ability to create favorites on the bookmarks bar for your most frequently used tabs.

I bet you’ll be wondering why this never came to mind :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

See mine:

It gives me the flexibility I need. Sometimes I feel like there’s a need for a guide on this, but I guess it’s outside the scope of Manager.

Receipts, Sales Invoices, Prices (actually Sales Quotes), and Inventory are all listed.

“Quick Re” is a link to a new receipt form, so I don’t have to go to the Receipts tab before creating a new one. You can do the same for reports, custom reports, and more. Anywhwre there are links you can create it as a favorite.
