Rearranging Menu Items

It would be great if these menu items could be rearranged by the user to fit their own view, depending on which items they use most.

I used to make the same request, but I now strongly disagree with it.

The software must maintain a consistent and unified interface. Manager is a web-based application. It runs entirely in a browser, even in the desktop edition. Because of this, many customization needs can be handled at the browser level without changing the software itself.

Users can create shortcuts for quick access to frequently used tabs. Modern web browsers also allow pages to be pinned to the left or right pane, making navigation even faster.

In my own setup, I have created favorites for the tabs I use most often and renamed them clearly so that anyone using the computer can easily understand and access them. This approach is extremely helpful because the Favorites bar never gets scrolled off the screen, ensuring constant and immediate access.

A good approach is to use a dedicated browser or profile within the browser exclusively for Manager, customize the Favorites or Bookmarks bar as needed, and then collapse the Menu Items panel within the application to get more screen space. See below:

Hello @Abeiku We use a server edition with more than 10 businesses. We manage our company’s businesses and manage multiple client businesses as well.

Although the setup works well for you, it’s not convenient for large-scale use as it’s not scalable and usable for multiple businesses. To use a similar solution to yours would mean multiple browsers, multiple tabs (too many), and it would be chaotic. Having a menu that follows user needs is a better option in my opinion.

Lastly, as long as the menu items are the same, there is no specific reason why the manager “Must” enforce a unified interface. When someone needs support and mention a section, e.g., “Customers,” we know what they are referring to.

The aliases made sense, for support. Its a bit different from menu arrangement (meaning where an item is in the list. its just for convenience.

@eko I am also following that discussion about aliases as well.

This should be the reason why you must stick to a default lay out. What is the utility in changing the layout for every business? aren’t you going to have difficulty locating tabs anytime you switch business?

I am would change for every business to fit my use case, and for the businesses that have multiple users, the main admin would change it to their respective usecase. We need to stop thinking as developers, fixating it conviniences us not the end users.

There is a feature in browsers like Google Chrome that allows you to create multiple profiles, not accounts, within a single browser. You can create as many profiles as you want, and each one can be customized to suit your needs. Microsoft Edge also supports this same functionality.

Each profile has its own:

  • Bookmarks

  • History

  • Cookies & sessions (logins)

  • Extensions

  • Theme and appearance

  • Saved passwords and autofill data

So, you can, for example:

  • Be logged into different Gmail or Microsoft accounts at the same time

  • Separate work, personal, admin, or testing environments

  • Customize each profile differently for convenience

You can create a profile for every business and do your customizations using the favorite button. You have to improvise.
