I would also like to add that you should use terminology used in Manager. There is no such thing as a Lot in Manager.

For now use Custom fields for these purposes. I hope Advance queries gets improvement so we can get balance per lot and expiry date.
@AlaaD, what you ask would be a complete revision to the program’s inventory philosophy. Manager assumes all units of an inventory item are identical and interchangeable. There is no underlying capability to associate individual units with lot numbers or expiration dates or any other parameters. Expecting such a change is likely to be disappointing.

I have come to the forum to ask about this same feature.I have been using Manager.io for about 4-5 Months, and everything was going smoothly, until I came upon the lack of this feature. Batch/Lot based tracking and Expiration recording are primary needs for many Businesses, and the lack of these features can cause inaccurate Inventory totals, which is reflected in reports. Of course, workarounds using Custom fields or separate items to each batch are usable, but they just don’t fit in this kind of software, where any changes made by any transactions to other tabs/modules are completed automatically. This is the only major issue I have encountered so far, and I hope the developers [@lubos] will introduce Batch/Lot based Inventory. I usually never interact through feedback platforms or software forums online, but this is a great Software, and adding this feature would help some of us quite a lot.

First, I have to mention that I have deleted your other duplicate post since it goes against the rules of the forum, specifically, the ones against cross-posting/double-posting.
I kept this one since it was the most recent topic.
Anyway, since you must have figured out by the age of the other request that didn’t make it into#ideas, this is not a feature that is a priority for development.
However, you can still create new item for each batch and attach expiry date as a custom field.
There is merit to the suggestion being made here. It has been made many times before I think, in various forms. It is creating an issue for me as we speak.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but currently there is just one identifier for an inventory item being code/name.
So something is purchased as a quantity of an item, or each unit is entered as qty one with perhaps some informational data in other fields (description, custom etc).
When a unit is sold it is the same: A quantity of a unit or each separately but with manually created extra information.
What is missing is the ability to record other key data (eg serial number, batch number, etc etc etc) in a single unit and the ability to later select that specific unit of that inventory by that key.
You are right, however, there is no such identifiers in Manager, so if you want this to work within Manager, then this identifier must be contained within the either/or Code/Name field.
So, if you are using batch control, then each batch would a separate Inventory Item and if you have specific identification, then each piece will have its own Inventory Item.
@Ealfardan Unfortunately your suggested workaround creates as many problems as it solves!
Will an action date custom field be helpful?
@Abeiku May solve some problems, but I’m thinking a solution specific to inventory. Typically this will not be date specific, could be anything.
The more I think about, this is not complicated. 2c:
- Add a new column in inventory. For the argument we’ll call this a ‘filter’.
- Optionally, multiples of the same inventory item can be distinguished by the filter e.g. serial number, lot number etc etc. Could be assisted by a drop-down of any current filter values for that inventory item.
- Inventory basic count changes to the COUNT of inventory items per Item/Description. So will look just the same as now.
- New reports could be created based on various levels of filtering.
- Inventory usage (e.g. in invoicing etc) first select by code/description as usual, then optionally by filter drop-down.
- Additional non-filter data (informational only) specific to a filtered stock item can be saved in existing or custom data fields.
- Optionally, there might be choice that all entries in a filter column be unique across all inventory. Then e.g. bar-coded e.g. serial numbers are that is required to uniquely identify a unit of stock.
- Optionally, there could be more than one filter column, establishing a hierarchy.
