The desktop edition is the same as the server version except that it is a stand-alone single user application. The server version is browser based and multi user.
One way I like to look at it is that it is free mainly because it serves as a tool with which to view the backup file of the server and cloud editions. Thereby allowing you to sender your dotManager file to your accountant and they can use the desktop version to view the file.
That means you can also use the desktop version for the same reason.
The only thing the desktop lacks is users and “server” functionality.
I understand what you are saying, but I think that is an unfair terminology… it’s not crippled software in any way for a single user… The server version has a different purpose in that it is designed for multi user access.
You are correct, and it is in no way what I meant. I couldn’t come up with the right word and I was hoping the rest of the description made up for it. (I’m going to edit it anyway lol)
