Feature request - version update notification or auto-update (local version)
from the post topic below and the question, Tut replied there is no update notification.
It would be nice to have one. Other programs like Filezilla, offer to update on each opening if one is available and I find it really helpful. In Manager, where updates seem necessary, it would be REALLY helpful.
There are valid reasons this feature is not included. First, the cloud edition is updated automatically. Second, the server and desktop editions are frequently used by bookkeepers and accountants for their clients, who they do not want to be updating on their own because of compatibility issues. Third, most businesses do not want their own users updating the program without oversight and control.
The only category of user for whom this might seem advisable is the non-paying, single user of the desktop edition.
No. Manager is not freeware or shareware. It’s developed and distributed by a for-profit company, NGSoftware. Their business model is what is called “freemium,” meaning that the desktop edition is free (a loss leader, if you will), while cloud and server editions require paid subscriptions or licenses, respectively. I assume their hope is that better accounting leads to business success, driving users toward more staff/users/locations and the need for the multi-user environment of the paid editions.
