Windows 7 and 8 support will be discontinued effective 10th of January 2023–which is less than a month from now. This includes support for WebView2 which is the root cause for this issue.
In order to continue to use Manager and Windows 7 or 8, you will have to either:
Upgrade Manager to Server or Cloud Editions
Rollback to earlier versions of WebView and Manager and forgo any further updates
Alternatively, you can use Manager Desktop on a Windows 10 or newer.
It beggars belief that people using an out of date operating system, which they bought for a a pittance years ago, refuse to upgrade to a new(ish) Windows 10 or new Windows 11 and still expect software providers to supply a working system.
Anyway, good luck to all those on Windows Vista, 7 et al
In this case, yes we do. From the Manager download page:
“Requires Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit) or newer.”
Windows 7 still accounts for a 25 percent market share, which is why developers still market to the OS.
Again Facing That Problem, again after uninstalling it’s ok but what’s the way to skip the odds of Installing and uninstalling, is there a permanent solution deep to overcome it
Hi Anke, As I mentioned in a previous post, the final version of Webview2 Runtime (109) will be out the week of January 12th, 2023. This will be the last revision for Win 7 and the hope is that it will function properly as did 107. Once installed, there will be no further automatic updates to Webview. If it does not solve the issue, the only other options are to continue with the headache of reinstalling the older version or taking @Joe91’s advice for the Windows upgrade. I have no idea it the issue caused by version 108 (and possibly 109) can be solved by the developer. It might be a difficult call to expend the resources on a fix for this. Perhaps @lubos could weigh in on that subject.
Terrific news! Just installed version 109 of Webview2 Runtime and Desktop Manager will now load without the failure. Note that I did an uninstall of the old version and started with a fresh install, but the updater should most likely work. As version 109 is the last version for Windows 7 (per Microsoft post), we should hopefully not have to be concerned about Webview2 breaking Manager in future updates.
Should be concerned? The post was about Webview2. There will be no further updates to Webview2 for Windows 7 or to Windows 7 itself. So there should be no risk for any future versions of Webview2 breaking the interface between Windows 7 and Manager, which is what I posted. You are correct that support has ended for Win 7, but I am the one to assess the risk for utilizing the the old OS.
Why not, it could be that Manager will take advantage of features in newer versions of Webview2 that are incompatible with older versions of Windows such as 7.
Sure, I remember vividly not wanting to change from Wordpress to Word and learn to work with a mouse preferring DOS commands until I could no longer exchange files and print them when buying new printer from trusted, beautiful and extremely slow daisywheel printer (dit not like dot-matrix because of pixellation) to a laser-printer with unsupported printer-driver.
As long as it works for you and nothing breaks there is no need to keep updating and investing. However there is a risk of future file and utilization compatibility when not updating Manager at some point, with risk of needing to learn new features, realizing some no longer exist, etc.
