Can not Configure smtp

Hello, I just updated to the latest Desktop version. I am trying to set up smtp for sending emails via Yahoo.com. I have tried both 465 and 567 ports and tried doing a test run but just keeps “trying” or “doing test” but nothing happens nor I get an error message.

I also see that there is no option to choose for SSL or authentication.

I have a screen shot but do not know how to attach.

Hi @martagisela ،

This suggests that the settings worked properly before the update.

By the looks of it, this appears to be an error from the email server side as it should respond with an error code, however, Manager should also throw a timeout error if it doesn’t get a server response.

This could possibly be a bug, but it could also mean that your email server could be stuck or that your server address could have changed. Please share the following information:

  1. Confirm your server name and ports from Yahoo
  2. Redo the tests and provide screenshots for every step
  3. What was your previous version before the update?

Also, regarding the TLS, it’s on by default and you should use the SSL/TLS connection parameters given by Yahoo.

Please follow advise from @Ealfardan. The SMTP Settings for Yahoo are:

  • Server address: smtp.mail.yahoo.com.
  • Username: Your full Yahoo email address (e.g. example@yahoo.com)
  • Password: Your Yahoo Password.
  • Port Number: 465 (With SSL)
  • Alternative Port Number: 587 (With TLS)
  • Authentication: Required.
  • Note: Sending Limits: 500 Emails a day or Emails to 100 connections a day.

Also check if you did not recently install a firewall or antivirus/spam application that blocks the SMTP ports.

Hi, I do not remember the prior version. Las updated more than 3 o 4 years algo…

Still haven’t got an error message. Just keeps trying to connect.

Is there a way to go back to a later version?

I also do not see the pdf option in Quotes or Invoices…

Deselect “do not verify TSL certificate”. Click update and show the resulting screenshot.

As for PDF this is now an obsolete feature. You can still enable it under Settings → Obsolete features.

Since you’re on desktop, you should also troubleshoot the connectivity, namely:

  1. Your internet connection
  2. Your Windows firewall settings

Also, you said earlier that you tried port 567, which isn’t used for email. Please try using port 587 as advised by @eko

Meanwhile, I’m going to create another bug report for better email error handling but first, I need you to confirm your current version number.

I wrote 567 but meant 587.

The version is 23.11.29.1184

I do have internet connection and have received various emails after the updated version of Manager.

I also verified my Firewall and nothing.

The strange thing is I do not get any error messages.

MG

Did you deselect “do not verify TSL certificate”? You can try with that setting port 465 as well, Yahoo allows both.

Also check if you have AVG… See post Smtp server no longer available - #30 by Eira

I have done all that…

Here is the screen shot…It just stays “buffering” or thinking…

Thank you! Got the PDF back!

MG

You did not check the AVG information. The “buffering” you refer to is SMTP not allowed to pass the port. As you state that there is no Firewall issue then it is the reported AVG issue. Please do not think because it used to work long time ago that Systems firewall and antivirus updates to your computer have not taken place. These are updated far more frequently than you do Manager. The issue is that your particular computer does not open the port Manager needs. Your email program may be exempted by the system through these and would work as normal, but in this case you use another application for which the port may not be allowed.

Trying to follow this, but where does AVG come into it?? @martagisela hasn’t mentioned that at all.

@martagisela , a bug report was created for this issue.

Here are a couple of screen shots from my Antivirus Firewall.

I am aware that computers and programs do updates frequently, but the issue started immediately I updated Manager to the latest Version. I use Manager on a daily basis and had used it prior to the update.

As I have found on the internet for Yahoo configuration, it states to specify SSL/TLS (yes) and Requires Authentication (yes) but these are no longer shown in the configuration options.

I have also asked in various occasions without an answer, it there is a way to go back a couple of versions…

Put all the SSL security ones in your second screenshot to OFF, they are now on!

Hey! Thanks for your patience! This is very frustrating.

I turned all to off and still nothing!

For testing purposes turn off Smart Firewall
Also again check your modem firewall settings, show screenshot

Did that, nothing.

How/where do I check my internet modem firewall. As far as I know, I do not have access to that. That is my Internet provider, which I already called and they told me they do not block access to any program and/or smtp.

And just in case; everytime I try something new I do the test with both ports: 465 and 587.
