Add Clone Business & User Feature

In some instances, you create a business and spend hours, sometimes days creating the perfect chart of accounts for the business. It would be great if when you press “Add Business” you get an option to “Clone Business”

How this would work

  • A user presses Add Business
  • A user choses clone Business Button
  • A User is taken to a page or options appear to choose the business to clone (With a search bar if there are many businesses)
    A user chooses a business to clone from.
  • A prompt appears whether the user wants to clone only the Business structure (what options are enabled, the settings, the charts of accounts, etc) or to do a Full Business Clone, where it will be as if someone did a backup and then imported a business, it would come with structure but also values recorded, all the data associated with the original business.

Advanced or Update to this would be

  • (1st feature) A user can choose what to clone from a business they are cloning. So they dont need to clone everything, maybe they only want to clone custom fields, or only charts of accounts.
  • (2nd Feature) A user can create a new business by cloning multiple businesses, and choosing what features they want to clone from each business, and which features to leave out. so they may clone charts of accounts from business A and take custom fields from Business B.

This can be replicated to be used also for Users, cloning users.

Why not just backup a ‘blank’ business with a different name e.g. Shares Template, and then when you want you can import it and rename it.
This way your templates are there whenever you want to import them.
I have two templates set up, one for retail and one for personal. The chart of accounts for each is set up to meet the particular requirements. When I need to I just import it, say the ‘Personal Finance’ template, then rename it to whatever I need to, say ‘Darrens Finances’.

This is what i currently do. Its not super convenient.

I have setup sample businesses, where they have different types of features enabled. However, everytime i change even one feature, i then have to backup again, and then import it. so if you chage 3 sample businesses you need to do this three times.

Cloning would be easier for a user.
