Sending emails causes manager to close or error message

I have updated to the latest Linux version of Manager. 24.6.25.1682

I am trying to email a sales invoice. I now get the following error message.
“Unexpected null character in stream.Invalid element ‘mj-’.”

I have tried to enabling the internal pdf generator as well in obsolete features and Manager just exits without error messages and without sending the email.

Currently I am unable to email any sales invoices. Please advise what I can do to fix this. Thanks

What edition are you using - Cloud, Server, Desktop?

What operating system?

Desktop - Linux edition 24.6.25.1682

I upgraded from Desktop - Linux edition 23.12.12.1221. Emailing invoices works on this version without any issues.

@Joe91
I have done some further testing and it appears that it only happens in my existing company files. If I create a new company file and send emails using exactly the same email settings etc then it successfully sends. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I really don’t want to start from scratch with all of my existing company files. That is a mammoth job. If all else fails I will have to stick with my outdated earlier version without the new features. Thanks

Try to remove the information in the SMTP settings of the existing businesses, save and then re-enter save and test.

Also note that there is a newer version of Manager v24.6.28.1694 although that would not impact the SMTP facility.

Unfortunately this doesn’t fix the issue. I reset SMTP settings and re-entered them. Test message sends successfully. I have tried it also with the latest version 24.6.28.1694. The problem still exists. When I select send, Manager just shuts down and no email gets sent. Same error message displays if I disable the internal pdf generator.

The emails work with the same settings in a completely new business. Just not my existing ones. I’m assuming it has something to do with the pdf generator despite disabling this function. If I try to pdf an invoice, Manager also closes. I really don’t want to print invoices to file and then email. This is how mistakes happen and invoices are sent to the wrong customer etc.

This doesn’t seem to be an email settings problem.

It Looks like PDF Generator failed to convert your Invoice to PDF due to compatibility issues.

Do you use custom themes?
Or have you tried sending a Normal Invoice, without a Footer or image other than the business logo?

Thankyou Mabaega. This appears to be the issue.

I am using a custom theme for invoices. Normal Invoice works fine for emails. I will start using the standard themes. Thankyou

@Smileykylie thanks for posting. I’m experiencing the same issue with a custom theme for invoices. Though I need the custom theme because it adds some features I require, especially subtotals.

I tinkered a bit and discovered that if I enable the obsolete internal PDF generator, it works.

@lubos I was a bit uncomfortable using 1 obsolete feature, and now I’m using 2. Is there any hope of a fix? My specific error running 24.8.11.1812 is:
Unexpected null character in stream.Invalid element ‘mj-’.Invalid element ‘table’.

Or perhaps is there another way to customize invoices to get subtotals?

I am doing some testing to see what I can do.
But I think I can program footers to do some of the same things.
Not sure if I could program subtotals.
If I get it to work, then I will post it in a new topic.
