Lost Information

Hi, I’m in panic mode.
I received an email today to download the newest version and well, now I can’t find my business. When I open Manger.to there’s absolutely nothing. It brand new … can someone please help .

Don’t panic. Unless you were using the desktop edition, your computer failed, and you had no backup on a separate device, your data is not lost.

First, you did not receive any email from NGSoftware instructing you to download the newest version. They do not send such emails. You may have received a newsletter (if you signed up for it) announcing a new version, but that is all.

So let’s get some information:

  • What edition were you using (desktop, server, or cloud)?
  • What operating system do you use, including the version number?
  • If you are using the server or cloud editions, what browser do you use?
  • You mention opening Manager. Is this with the a new version you just installed? If so, how did you install it? Be specific. Did you follow the information in the Guide for your operating system?

To install, I click the link in the email, it took me to the webpage, I downloaded it and it installed.
When I went to open it, it created a desktop shortcut, I clicked and when it loaded, it was a new version with this .

Don’t know if this helps?

It helps somewhat, but you did not answer all my questions, most specifically which operating system. You also did not explain how you installed the program and whether you followed the correct Guide on doing so.

The good news is that your data is clearly present. Your statement that “there’s absolutely nothing” was incorrect. You have three businesses, one with quite a bit of data, one with a fairly small amount, and one just a placeholder (probably with no transactions).

Your panic apparently stems from having updated from a very old version, when data files were named with 32-character hexadecimal strings called UUIDs. The program now uses plain language names, and it thinks those UUIDs are your business names.

All you have to do is open each of these businesses and click the Rename link alongside the gibberish at the top of the window. Look at the data; no doubt you will be able to tell which business is which. Rename each business whatever you want it to be called on the Businesses page. This does not change the name of the business in Business Details, only the name of the data file.
