I can add new receipts and payments now. I was just hoping to do it without toggling back and forth between receipts and payments as I add entries from my accounting, and see a total that includes both.
Is it possible to get to a screen similar to the 2nd screenshot?
You can create such under Reports ā General Ledger Transactions or create a customs report.
@oliver54, you got yourself into trouble with software versions and backup files because you did not follow instructions offered to you in response to your questions. Now, you are not following other suggestions, including reading the relevant Guides.
Accessed what? No one can read your mind. Your descriptions do not match any former or current behavior of the program. And your screen shots are from such an ancient version of the program that no one can offer help with it anymore. Nor should you want it, because youāve migrated your data to your new iMac with the developerās help.
It isnāt. But you cannot expect to learn how to use a recent version of the program by showing obsolete screen shots. You need to read the current Guides. A great deal has changed since you last updated your software.
No. The program has progressed far beyond that. You can obtain much more information now, but not in that particular presentation, however you got it.
The view button accessed what you see in the 2nd screen shot. If I canāt add receipts and payments on the same page without toggling back and forth and not seeing a running total, then it appears this app no longer works for me.
Well, I am sorry to hear that. But the fact is, you never could do what you describe in the way you describe it. The various buttons you may have clicked to enter transactions actually took you to different tabs, the same as now. Those tabs have different names in recent versions and offer greatly increased capabilities.
If you want to continue using an antiquated version of Manager, you can. You already have a backup file formatted in the outdated database structure. You just need to find a functional computer that can run on an out-of-date and unsupported operating system so you can install an obsolete version of Manager. Unfortunately, this is the reality of life in the computer age. You must keep up with change or endure increasing hardships maintaining the past. Good luck.
You can keep two windows open (right-click on receipts and on payments and they will open in a browser. So you can manually enter (who does that anymore?) your bank statement payment and receipts, etc.
I was able to do that and did it that way for years. You also errantly stated that there was never a view button and you can clearly see it in my screen shot. I appreciate your help but your deprecating and punitive attitude has not only not helped but it has added to the stress of this situation. Iām obviously not as computer savvy as you but neither am I a complete idiot. I already have a version installed otherwise how would I have gotten those screen shots? Seems like you just like to take every opportunity to get in your digs, which is really sad and very unnecessary in customer support.
I will try to use this app as other more helpful people have described. I will also try to leave the dark ages and import bank statements and see where I get with that. Thank you to everyone who was patient with me and very helpful.
That will save you a lot of time and also helps with your bank reconciliations. It is a good move forward. The guides are really helpful and you can search the forum for anything that you may want to know. Take care.
@oliver54, let me remind you that you began this thread by complaining that you could not import an old backup file onto your new computer. You did not mention your old computer was still functional until post #10, when you reported that it was limited to an operating system that has been incompatible with Manager for years. At that point, you did not mention your old machine was still running an old version of Manager. How were we to know?
In post #20, you admitted to still having the old laptop, but gave no hint you were still able to run an old version of Manager on it. And never, through a 50-plus post thread, have you told us what the old version number of Manager was.
At post #30, we got the first hint that you are just trying to use Manager as a checkbook register. You, however, never said so explicitly. But in posts #39, you first mentioned a View button, without saying what View button you were referring to or what you were trying to access by clicking it. There are View buttons all throughout Manager. Your general lack of detail has made it very difficult to understand your meaning, and very easy to misinterpret what you have said.
Post #49 was the first time in this lengthy discussion you actually said you had a functioning older version running on any computer. That would have been very helpful to all those who tried to help you. When you presented the screen shots, you did not say how you obtained them, or from where. We could only guess. And it seems most guessed incorrectly.
Now that we have a somewhat clearer picture of your situation and goals, I will offer one final piece of advice as a forum moderator. Since all you are trying to do is keep bank account registers, Manager is probably not a good tool for you. Manager is a full, double-entry accounting system. You have not taken the time necessary to set it up correctly. And you are not using it for its intended functions. So you will probably always find it frustrating. Using Manager is simply not worth the effort for what you want from it. There are plenty of (free) cashbook or check register programs and apps available that are more suitable.
And by the way, I am not customer support. I am one of the forum moderators, all of whom are other program users.
I apologize for not communicating my situation better. I had no idea some of that info mattered and no one asked me. I use Manager for more than that, mostly reports. I donāt have the time or the energy left to argue or point out deficiencies/mistakes, but thank you again, I really do appreciate your effort.
In my opinion the more general solution is when
