i am using text custom field in sales invoice - line and sales order - line. but when i go to get report choosing custom field, i can not find that field. i can not get any report on that custom field
please advice

Where are you trying to generate this report from? Is it Custom Reports or Advanced Queries?
I am trying in sales invoice totals by custom field
That only works for Custom Fields placed at Sales Invoice level not on the lines.
Have you tried Advanced Queries on Sales Invoices - Lines?

Yes it worked. but for specific date and item report i can not generate through advance queries. - will we be able to get reports according to date and items ? @Roel_Developer
You can use the Where filter to set dates and item
