I have an account with a name but no visible place in the Summary. When I create a transaction, for example a journal entry, I can select that account as one of the sides. But the amount then appears in Suspense. The account is not visible in the Chart of Accounts.
Is there any way for me to get rid of the account? Should I be worried about the consistency of my database?
I am not sure if this is related, but I have had one or two instances where I have transactions / balances not appearing on the summary page. After trial and error, including restoring a backup for investigation, the account balance became visible on the Summary page again. It almost feels like some index gets lost for the summary page. The quickest workaround I found was to rename the business and then back to the original name. The rename seems to “re-index” the Summary page. @lubos Maybe you can give your view as well.
There was no total amount shown on the Summary page for one general ledger account in the Profit and Loss statement. I then retrieved the report from the Profit and Loss Statement, and the relevant general ledger account was shown there with the correct amount.
I also noticed that, on closer inspection of the details in the relevant ledger, a field had been added which was empty at the time.
A few hours later, it turned out that this new field had indeed been populated with the name of the ledger account, and the correct balance was shown on the Summary page.
I’ve just checked the details of the general ledger account again, and the ‘new’ field isn’t visible yet.
In conclusion, I think some adjustments were made that temporarily caused a discrepancy. Fortunately, I spotted this in time and was able to prevent unbalanced figures from being sent to the accountant.
It would be helpful if a feature could be added to show the difference between Net Profit and Retained Earnings for the relevant period, even if it is only a temporary phenomenon.
Inspired by the comments, I tried once more today. The ghost account was still there, with no “parent” account. That is, in the transaction entry form.
But then, a few minutes later, it wasn’t there anymore.
So, for now, the problem seems to have gone away. Maybe the system has some self-healing properties?
I’ll leave it for now. Thanks to all for commenting.
The Summary page takes some time to update. For example, if I post a large Purchase Invoice dated 12/31/2025 and my Summary is set to 1/1/2026 to 4/16/2026, the balance on the Purchase Invoice will show on the Summary initially but go away after around 30 min.
