File management question

Greetings. I just bought a new Mac and when I went to open Manager to add an expense to my Business, I got a long and weird error message. I realized I hadn’t updated in a while, so I did that, and thankfully I was able to Import my business using the most recent backup.

I had had an older Folder called Business Backups, but when I went to backup my newest entry, I created a new folder called Biz Backups. But where is the actual Manager app? It’s not in my Applications folder and not in this folder. I’m opening the program from the .dmg file. Can I just move that into my existing Biz Backups folder, replacing the older version? And can I just transfer over all my folders of Invoices from 2021, 2022, 2023, etc.? I hope my question makes sense.

Thanks.

Did you use a Mac before? I ask because if you had then you would know that you had to drag and drop the .dmg file to the applications folder.

Never open the .dmg from the back up or data folder, you would not do that for any application. Data and Application are always separate folders!

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, All I’ve ever used is a Mac. But for as long as I can remember, any app or program I’ve ever downloaded has prompted me to drag it into the Applications folder. Manager is the first I’ve ever had not do that. I just wasn’t sure if there was some proprietary place it had to be other than with the other apps. And since my old Manager app was in the folder with the associated Manager backup files, I wondered if it should be there instead of with the applications.

Thanks again.

Manager as any other applications should operate from the Applications folder and always be separate from the active files folder which also should be separate from any backups that you make. Although one can run the application from other folders it is bad practice. I only use Manager for some years but I always had to drag the file to the applications folder from the downloads folder.
