Error message upon launching

Hello. Please forgive any faux pas as this is my first post.

I’ve been using Manager for a couple years. On occasion, I get an error message when launching. In the past, I’ve restarted my computer and that resolved the issue. But for some reason, today, it’s not working. I was just using Manager on Friday and haven’t done anything unusual over the past 2 days (no updates or anything). I’m running Mac iOS Tahoe 26.5.2 and I have no idea what version of Manager I have (can’t open it to see, and the “Get Info” says 1.0.0 which can’t be right because isn’t the current version something like 26.5.15.3605?). Manager occasionally crops up with an update notice and I always update it.

The error message I’m getting is:

(I removed my name, just for privacy purposes)

Access to the path ‘/Users/myname/Documents/Manager.io’ is denied.

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path ‘/Users/myname/Documents/Manager.io’ is denied. —> System.IO.IOException: Operation not permitted — End of inner exception stack trace — at System.IO.Enumeration.FileSystemEnumerator`1.CreateDirectoryHandle(String path, Boolean ignoreNotFound) at System.IO.Enumeration.FileSystemEnumerator`1.Init() at System.IO.Enumeration.FileSystemEnumerable`1..ctor(String directory, FindTransform transform, EnumerationOptions options, Boolean isNormalized) at System.IO.Enumeration.FileSystemEnumerableFactory.UserFiles(String directory, String expression, EnumerationOptions options) at System.IO.Directory.InternalEnumeratePaths(String path, String searchPattern, SearchTarget searchTarget, EnumerationOptions options) at System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(String path, String searchPattern, EnumerationOptions enumerationOptions) at Manager.ApplicationData.Refresh() in /Users/runner/work/Manager/Manager/Manager/ApplicationData.cs:line 127 at Manager.ApplicationData..cctor() in /Users/runner/work/Manager/Manager/Manager/ApplicationData.cs:line 57

And before any of you geniuses start, please dumb stuff way down for me. I know how to drive a car but I don’t know how it works or how to fix it. Same with my computer and software.

I sincerely appreciate the help! I didn’t want to bother anyone, but I just can’t figure this out this time…

this is an issue with your computer.
MacOS is not letting manager access it’s own folder.
could you use a terminal and post the output of

ls -lah /Users/myname/Documents/Manager.io

I would also suggest checking if your disk is failing

I’ve just been looking elsewhere on the forum and apparently MacOS did an update recently which requires you to explicitly allow access for programs to access your user directory. see this post

Hello John! Thank you for responding!

Sorry, but I don’t know how to use terminal.

And of COURSE it’s my computer. :frowning: Why don’t you gurus get the glitchy ones and us dummies get the ones that just run fine?

I did the disk utility and also the first aid and supposedly there’s nothing wrong with my computer. It’s a Mac Mini that I bought in Feb 2023.

Any suggestions? As I said, restarting my computer used to work (this has happened maybe 1/2 a dozen times since I started using Manager in 2024), but for some reason, today — Nope.

I also noticed under that error message a number of 24.9.17.1854. Could that perhaps be my Manager version number?

Sorry for being stupid. I really DO appreciate your time!

not sure if you’ve taken a look at my second post yet. apparently there’s a new setting in MacOS which prevents Manager.io from accessing your user directory.
I’m not on MacOS myself, but there was another user with a similar issue who was able to fix it through their privacy settings.

Yes! Reading that now! Just need to figure out where that setting is (currently looking). You’re the best! Thank you! I’ll let you know if I get it resolved.

MANY THANKS to you John (and Heather, and Jerone I think?). Tho I couldn’t find anywhere in my Privacy & Security settings to fix this issue, an internet search of ‘how to fix permissions’ DID. (Not the Apple site, which was totally useless, but a 3rd party site which was quick, easy, and spot on).

You may be rolling your eyes, but I am EVER SO GRATEFUL for your help! THANK YOU! Manager is up and running again! :face_blowing_a_kiss:

all good mate. glad you got it fixed. buy me a beer next time you’re in hobart
