In settings mode the sales invoice setting tab is no longer there?

If you mean Settings - Sales Invoice Items, then this along with Settings - Purchase Invoice Items were removed some months back and replaced with Settings - Non-Inventory Items, which combined the two. Read the following Guide

Non-inventory items are shortcuts for entering line items in many sales- and purchase-related transaction forms in Manager. They are completely optional.
