This is my first post; but I have been using manager a lot lately, and most of the business I do accounting for look at Manager and from the first glance they hate it, the reason is; The silver theme, it sound old, outdated and numbing, I know it’s not about looks; but looks matter, a color like “blue” will make manager seem more professional and trust worthy among many other marketing benefits.
I hope you all agree with me, I value your time; this isn’t just my opinions but the opinion of dozens more.
As far as I am aware the colour theme can’t be changed, especially for the Desktop edition.
Maybe others can advise regarding the Cloud & Server editions.
I would recommend that this be added to the ideas category. I fully agree. Manager is so simple to use, but I also don’t like the dull grey and yellow look. Yellow just feels very 80’s to me!
Looks do matter as many people judge software by their looks. I remember when I was reviewing accounting software and I came across this - http://www.adminsoftware.biz/ and it looks terrible. I also decided against using it because Manager was a lot easier to use, but the other program put me off with its very dated look.
Manager’s logo is red and white - I would recommend that Manager incorporate that colour scheme into their program. My recommendation would be to have a white background, red header sections and use either a light red or grey for active tabs, rows etc.
I think you are wrong. Manager’s appearance is the reason why I bothered to see what the software has to offer after I randomly came across it in my university hall room with my friends when we were looking for a free Accounting software to try the things we were learning and also use it when we find jobs with companies without accounting software in the future after school.
The simplicity of this software is what makes it so nice. I have a new job I’m starting next month. They use QuickBooks and pay money to QuickBooks every month for a single user. I’m going to convince them to quit and capture all their transactions from January 1st to Date into manager.
Even though QB is flashy with when it comes to looks, it doesn’t do much and it was made for Americans. Only thing it has over Manager is Order tracking for which we will have here in manager eventually.
Why am I talking so much? Well I don’t know. But one thing I can say is that. @lubos Hasko got it right to make manager look and feel the way it is. The architecture of the manager app makes it light weight which is a good thing for we the slow computer users lol.
I however agree that the ability to change the program interface colour would be welcomed if it won’t add more megabytes to the app weight.
If you ask me, Manager is more professional looking. If you want pie charts and bar charts you can always export data and build from there
What @Abeiku wrote is right.
Sometimes people on this forum amaze me.
The majority I think, use the free desktop version.
What they get for free is:
free software
a lot of functionality and flexibility
software that never crashes
bugs that are solved almost immediately
and so on and so on
And what do I read:
complaints about a fancy appearance as if that is the most important in life.
If you don’t like it, throw it away and pay a lot of money for another fancy application.
You don’t have to use Manager. You are giving the opportunity to use it for free.
Appreciate that, be grateful and stop complaining about non-important issues.
Dear Hennie;
Your replay was quite rude; I am with manager.io all the way; and I am a paying customer; it’s ok to hear an opinion that you don’t think it is valid; not every culture is the same; I see you point of view and I can relate to it.
@Abeiku
I have seen a lot of your posts\replies, I respect you; I am promoting manager to college students; your words assured me; grad students def. can affect the industry a lot.
As for the looks of manager; I use the server edition maybe I can get one of the programmers to change the color of my copy; will that keep me from getting any more updates tho?
If you are using chrome then you can add an easy to use extension called “color change” which will enable to change page’s background color, font, style, size etc. You may also find similar extensions on other browsers.
A reply to all,
It is not my intention to be rude and of course everybody, paying or non-paying user, has the right to ask for a feature. I am a very frequent reader on this forum and always prepared to help other people where possible, but I have often the idea that the focus is more on fancy things than on functionality of the application.
One thing is for sure, it is for Lubos and his team impossible to keep everybody satisfied. One likes it, the other one dislikes it and I think that Lubos and his team do their utmost to keep as many people happy and satisfied with this awesome software.
I understand your point of view, but my personal opinion is that most criticism is constructive criticism in that you are making the developer aware of an area that possibly needs improvement - the developer is getting valuable feedback on his product. My thinking is that if he improves the gui look, this may draw in more customers that have the same impression. Having said that - gui is a very difficult one as there is no look that everyone universally loves.
@dalacor you are in the minority. If the looks are changed, the happy customers would leave asap. You seem to be more interested in how a thing looks than the functionalities, and even suggest changing core functionalities of ACCOUNTING subject…not only of this software.
tried it , its useless, thank you tho, the color is really irritating, everyone says so, i don’t understand how someone could argue so, I will rewrite the code of my server edition, if it cost’s me new updates so be it, i will use it for the showcase only
The discussion was on the user interface of Manager not themes for forms. It is surprising that this was raised 3 years ago and that still nothing has been done to allow for some customization of the user interface. However, as many mentioned at the time, it is not a priority, because the core functionality is more. It is clear that Manager benefits from being Programmer-driven which helps to develop the functionality as some are Designer and Marketing driven with much less functionality. However, it would be interesting to see if @lubos could consider some flexibility or design review. Ultimately it is a question of taste and all those others Quickbooks, Xero, Wave, etc, that use “blue” will upset those that prefer “yellow” But sometimes a thorough review of the interface will help to enhance the way people work with it or make the experience more enjoyable. It is great that functionality is configurable (customize and settings) and surprising that some aspects of the user interface such as fonts and colours are not.
It is primarily because function takes more priority than design! There were/are far more important things to address.
However, I would not have thought that it would take long to add a colours setting to allow users to edit the background colours, font colours. That should not be a lot of coding to add. Quite minimal in fact and based on that should perhaps be bumped up as it’s quite a small job programming wise.
I wish that this topic would be added to the ideas category, especially now with the addition of the customer portal where it would be even more desirable to customise the colours of Manager for clients.
I would love to get rid of the yellow background which I consider to be dated and old fashioned and add a bit more contrast to some areas of manager because it is difficult in some lighting to see what tab I have clicked on.
