I’ve just installed Manager on Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS (64-bit) from the .deb package available for download. Nothing happens when I try to start it, except that it shows up in the tray, then disappears after a few moments. The package installer didn’t indicate any problems. Anything else I should be doing?

Just in case anyone else might read this, there is an old .deb that lubos posted in another thread with this problem, without SQLite, that works just fine.
Not sure what you mean by installing SQLite via terminal.
Anyway, is this 32-bit Ubuntu or 64-bit Ubuntu?
Its the 32 bit Ubuntu. Was able to open it using the cd and sudo work
around on the terminal. Otherwise it doesn’t work.
PS - am a medical doctor and not a computer whiz.
