Can items on purchase invoice be added as the invoice is setup?

I am adding a purchase invoice and I would like to know if the items on the invoice can be added as I fill in the purchase invoice? or do I have to fill the inventory item first? Thank you in advanced

In the Desktop version you need to create the inventory item first.
In the Cloud & Server versions you can open a new tab and add the item during the invoice.
