Business .Manager File Won't Open on Either Mac or Windows Computers

I have been using your software for a few years now on different platforms with no issue. However, I came across an issue this morning, which I am unable to resolve.

I entered data on one of my businesses file until 15:14 yesterday and browse data until circa 17:00 yesterday with no issue. I’ve been working with this copy since 2020 with no issue (251.6Mb).

I have tried to open this file:

  • From the cloud (where it usually is) or on local folder, unsuccessfully on those different platforms:
    • MacBook (mid-2012) using version 24.4.17.1441 (Used Daily)
    • IMac Late 2015 using same version of software and latest version available on website. (Used Every other day when unable to use the MacBook)
    • MacBook (2021) using same version of software and latest Apple Silicon Version available on website. (To test the file)
    • Windows 11 (2023) using latest Windows Version of software available on website. (To Test the file)

After browsing the forum,
I have tried a copy and rename the file with no space.
I have tried to open any of those files from the safari or windows browser.

In each occurrences, the file stop at 99% and won’t open the main screen.

Note:

  • the app doesn’t crash - I have either to click on the “Back” or “Business” Button to refresh the page. So there is no crash log to share.
  • The last back-up of that file, which was saved mid-july (beating myself up from skipping end of month back-up due to workload pressure) opens up perfectly (file weight 241.8Mb).
  • All other business files are opening with no issues.
  • If you need to redirect this post elsewhere, do not hesitate as I may not have browse through all entries in the forum.

Is there any way I can reopen a copy and make a viable back-up of this file without have to rebuild the last month worth of data?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Please note that Manager requires 64-bit operating systems and versions not older than listed at https://www.manager.io/download

For example for Mac requires “Requires Mac OS X 12 or newer” Also note that the Mac default download under large Free downloads button is for Silicon Macs (M1, M2 etc) and the small link below it for Intel Macs https://github.com/Manager-io/Manager/releases/latest/download/Manager-osx-x64.dmg

Please also note that business data files only open in similar Manager versions. The Cloud version is always the newest so you should always first install the latest Desktop version to import businesses backed up from the Cloud version,

Hi @eko,

I appreciate the time you took to reply to my query.

I do not use the cloud version of the software, so this option is out of the equation.

However, I’ve installed the latest version on my private M1 Silicon Mac and after importing the business data files, it is still stuck at 99%. Same with the version of the software I was using yesterday when I was working on that file.

Based on your feedback, this won’t be a software issue, but a data file one. My only guess is that the file got corrupted when I shut my work computer down last night. Not sure how that would have happened.

We won’t have a choice but to rebuild the entire data from the last back-up.

Again, thanks for your guidance.

But you started with:

As for corrupt business data file search the forum. @Lubos made not so long ago a post where you need to install an application and can in many cases repair the file. Search for it or use the Forum AI Bot.

@eko He said that he tried to open it from the cloud.
While you are thinking the cloud version of manager.

I think he means he keeps some files on the cloud for his team,
to open on the desktop or server versions of manager.

@NEC Here is somethings I found that may apply to you.

I also suggest that you make 3 copies of your business file from now on.
And store one on your computer, one on a jump drive & and the last on a external hard drive.
