Backup data corruption after trying to open in a previous version of Manager

I get the message:
It appears you are trying to open a file which has been already accessed by newer version of Manager. Upgrade to the latest version of Manager and try to open this file again.

I update it, can then use it and do my invoices. Once I close the app and reopen it, I get the same message and have to repeat the process again. I have tried completely uninstalling it and reinstalling but that didnt help either. I tried deleting all back ups and backing up again when it’s working. Same result when i go to use it again. I moved the back up to the manager folder as mentioned in another forum, that didnt work either.

If anyone can help that would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum @Regan_Mickle,

That’s weird.

What Version and Edition of Manager are you using?

Also, do you share your business files or backups with another user or another device?

Did You download the latest version and updated

Hello, I (unwittingly) opened a desktop file which had been being edited with version 25.4.17.2256 on a computer that had version 25.3.12.2158; the file did not display the latest data (history shows activity through mid-April, and the file had been being actively used and edited through last week), and when I re-imported into the computer with the later version (25.4.17.2256), it now has the same issue there. I am a bit confused as to what happened, because several times before I have accidentally tried to open a file on an older version, and the program has not opened and given an error message suggesting updating to the most recent version, any idea what happened? Thank you

Welcome to the forum @Acct1,

I have merged your post with this one, since I will make this a bug report.

It’s possible that we are missing something here but this appears to be a recurring problem for many users and it is critical in nature which justifies its inclusion in bugs even if we cannot fully understand or reproduce.

I can provide more detailed information on exactly when/how the issue occurred. It is fairly important for me, as the accounting function is at a standstill until it is resolved, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Here is my specific situation:
I have a NAS with the ManagerIO company file on it, I have a Windows computer with Manager version 25.4.17.2256 (I will call this “New Computer”), and a Windows computer with Manager version 25.3.12.2158 (I will call this “Old Computer”) which I don’t use very often.

  • I usually use New Computer, and had made entries in Manager as late as ~June 1
  • I was on Old Computer and opened the company file, it was not displaying the most recent data, so I checked history, it only showed activity through April 14
  • At this point all still showed correctly on New Computer
  • I thought it was perhaps a syncing issue on Old Computer, so removed the company file from old computer ManagerIO, this moved it to the Trash folder in ManagerIO folder, I then imported it back into Old Computer, this left the original company file in Trash and created a copy in primary Manager folder
  • At this point all still showed correctly on New Computer, but still not on Old Computer
  • Because that didn’t work, I removed it from Old Computer Manager again, this put the second one in Trash and renamed it to “[company file] (2)”
  • At this point all still displayed correctly in New Computer, but I was unable to determine which file New Computer was reading, so removed the business from New Computer Manager and imported “[company file] (2)” back into New Computer Manager, it now displayed only date through April 14, just like Old Computer; since this didn’t work, I removed it from New Computer, and imported “[company file]” (the original file), this also didn’t work, and displayed only data through April 14.

I DID NOT edit anything on the company file during all of this, so it would seem no data should have been lost or corrupted in the actual database.

I noticed that the ‘Batch Create’/‘Update’ fields recently changed and there are a number of obsolete fields, I wonder if for some reason the software is not reading the new style fields, and so not displaying the date that has been entered since that changed?

This is somewhat confusing to me, as a few times before, I have accidentally tried to open a Manager file with an older version than what is on my main computer (New Computer), and Manager gives a message that it cannot open it because it has been edited with a newer version, and once I update Manager all works correctly, so I wonder why that didn’t happen here?

I was hoping the developer, @lubos, if no one else, would be able to understand what happened here and advise. I can try updating Manager to the most recent version and see if that works, but was concerned that may cause more trouble, so waiting for advice.

Thank you very much in advance!
