Bookkeeping/Accounting Course for Beginners in Australia

Hi all, new to bookkeeping/accounting. I am located in Western Australia. I found the guides on here useful, the PDF version is very handy. However, it would be great if I was able to do a basic beginner accounting course to understand chart of accounts, accrual accounting, taxes etc related to a small Australian business.

Does anyone have any suggestions for basic beginner training courses for Australian accounting? The ones I have been looking at are all linked to another accounting package like Xero, Quickbooks, Zoho, Freshbooks and other online systems.

Cheers

I suggest

  1. Look at the report you have had in the past. Both what useful information they provide and what is missing to keep you informed about how your business is going.

  2. Create test businesses in Manager and see what reports it generates and how information is entered.

  3. Discuss what you think is your best chart of accounts with your accountant.

  4. Ask here if you have concerns about how to solve a Manager implementation issue when you have an idea of what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanks, I have started doing that, but doing a course on basic accounting will help :).

Generally speaking, that is beyond the scope of this forum. Because the developer has recommended it, however, moderators and experienced forum members often point novices to accountingcoach.com. It’s free, has very good examples, and applies everywhere. Accounting is accounting. There are no special characteristics for Australian accounting. But, like everywhere, there are jurisdiction-specific requirements governing how you implement the fundamentals, especially for taxation. But again, this forum is not the place for such inquiries, excepting implementation of the Australian localization features.

I was not expecting anything beyond the scope, it was merely a basic question for suggestions, like you have done.
