By definition, a backup is a copy to be used in the event of failure to restore the system to a stable state. If it contains only selective or partial data, then it’s pretty much useless.
I would love to have attachment separate outside of .manager file.
as we are using it for our daily orders and have a lot of attachments too so keeping attachments outside of backup file is good thing for us.
Suggestion:
@lubos if we can connect and add attachment to an external storage that will be good too so the attachments are saved in a secure platform and only .manager file we can download as backup.
both options can be helpful users can choose either need to have attachments on local device or configure storage like s3 to store attachments there
FYI this help page is now out of date - as it still says you can exclude history etc when doing a backup Backup | Manager.io ( I went round in circles on this for a bit )
You may want to update it
Background:
Im a new user to Manager.IO and overall I LOVE IT !!!
I imported a lot of transactions (5 yrs worth) from another accounting system - MYOB Essentials
By exporting to a report / massaging it in Excel via VBA into a format that M.IO likes
And then doing a Batch Jnl Create and pasting in the transactions (over 1200 of them)
However I got it wrong and need to do a reimport
Also I cloned the original Business1 to Business2
- So I could have the same Chart of accounts / bank rules / reports etc in Business2
- And then deleted the Journals / Pmts / Receipts in Business 2
And now I have lots of redundant history in both files
- Maybe it doesn’t matter?
- But if so it would be nice to clean up and remove the old history, via backup /import
BTW: Id be happy to share my Excel files / VBA after I have tidied it up and removed my personal data
- So others can import data from another Accounting system (like MYOB)
- But dont know where / how to do this best
There currently isn’t any way that history can be deleted. Effectively, this also means that a business can’t be cloned to a new business. The removal of the “delete history” option that was previously available seems to be a significant retrograde step (in my opinion). I have asked @lubos numerous times over many weeks whether this option can/will be reimplemented, but unfortunately I have not received a reply despite my multiple attempts to get a response.
@ozcpa you are right. With the current backup, it is a package, you must backup or clone all with history and attachments.
In my opinion and strong belief, the previous method of backup with options to include/exclude history and attachments was perfect enough without the need for any changes whatsoever.
@lubos ,please consider to revert back to whatever it was before
.
Tks
@lubos Would you be so kind to answer? The missing features are gone and were used. Thanks.
Someone?
Someone…an ETA would be very much appreciated. Will this be reverted or changed? Thx.
@lubos ?
hello,
My backup file size is very large, and I want to create a backup without history.
However, Manager always includes the full history in the backup, whether the Timestamp option is checked or unchecked. There is also no option to exclude history from backups.
I am using v25.12.21.3153 Server Edition
Thanks..
After the recent changes this option is no longer available until the developer finishes making the changes.
Refer to the discussion in Backup has lost some of options
@Flakily8674 Thank you for clarification.
I used backup without attachments, emails and history to reduce file size and to discard records for which the retention requirements have lapsed.
Now I don’t see that option anymore.
Can we get this back?
attachments are also undergoing some changes. In cloud edition, they are already stored outside of the business file. I’m planning to do the same for other editions too.
The functionality you are implementing is not a backup as using it changes the business. Your new function
-
Deletes history
-
Deletes attachment
Both are integral parts of a business accounting records.
I do not doubt some users may want the ability to export part of their accounting records so have no objection to Manager adding an export function. Removing a backup function or tricking users into inadvertently creating incomplete backups will end with anger when someone actually needs to use their “backup”.
So incase it’s not obvious I strongly object to the change. The solution to slow backup of large accounts is not to not do a backup.
I do believe that the Undo function as well as the ability to view record history to be a strong point of Manager.
It adds a lot to the user friendly nature of Manager which is its biggest competitive advantage
Dear developers, is there any update when this functionality returns? Highly appreciated!
@lubos / Developpers
Any ETA when we might expect to get this functionality back?
