Dear @lubos
sorry didnt get that, mean i cant get back to arial font ?
Really the new Font is annoying its taking the interface and printouts to very bad output.
@Mohamed.Yassin
what browser are you using ?
the first image you shared is not how RTL language looks.
Google Chrome
Make sure its the latest version.
Maybe the language of you OS is affecting the layout of the program.
As for the interface printouts there is no noticeable change in size. Overall this is how an RTL language should look like:
Your previous layout was not normal.
I appreciate that
But I really need to get back to Arial font
This new one is non professional at all to use in business
It looks like doing some art of writing
the Previous on is completely normal as the chart of accounts is arabic and the manager system i choose english its not related to any settings
Arial is an outdated font it has nothing to do with being professional.
I made the request to change it because it looks horrible on the UI and printed documents.
perhaps you can share your opinion here (lets see how many member prefer Arial font):
i will do share my opinion in the post you mentioned
but as you said
will get back to member mean it’s related preferences which can be different from a person to another, i think Manager should give the users the right to choose the font that they prefer to use
you can even check the below screen as a sample from XX Company
what font they are using
@lubos
with full respect and appreciation to manager , im just sharing with you for the benifit as a Manager user over 8 years now, and i think comforting the customers something really means to Manager
even if we go for financial reporting here is screen from a public company financials and this is one of many examples you can see haw the financials which is done by one of the big 4 Auditing firms haw they present the financial reports
you can compare it with the new reports now from manager and see haw is the difference that font can affect the presentation of the financials
The font was changed not because of stylistic preferences but because the old font was barely legible on screen.
As far as printouts go, you can always add a footer to change the printout fonts:
<script>
var page = document.getElementById('printable-content');
page.style.fontFamily = 'Arial';
</script>
This will change the printout font to any font you like.
I’m wondering whether there could be a consensus.
@Mohamed.Yassin which one of these Arabic Noto fonts do you think would work the best if you have to choose one?
Noto Naskh Arabic - https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Naskh+Arabic/tester
Noto Kufi Arabic - https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Kufi+Arabic/tester
Noto Sans Arabic - https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Sans+Arabic/tester
Completely the 1st one is likely suitable and formal to be used in business than the 2nd & 3rd
As it’s mostly present standard Arabic font which is common everywhere
Other fonts are not being used as it’s represent only style of writing
But isn’t this case that sans-serif font such as Noto Sans looks better on the screen due to pixel resolution and serif font such as Noto Naskh looks better when printed?
That’s an overstatement. Sans-serif Arabic fonts are more common nowadays than they used to be 20 years ago, even more common that Serif fonts if you counted digital use.
As a counter example, here’s an official screenshot from an annual report of a banking institution in Arabic sans-serif font:
You might argue that some audit firms are stuck with their old conventions and you’d like to stick to that image which is fair. However, you must admit that it’s just a matter of stylistic preference.
Just to meet in the middle, how about making a compromise between legibility and professional look. Would you agree that font 2 is passable for an official professional look? @Mohamed.Yassin
I couldn’t agree more. Even non-Arabic speakers can tell that the details in Arabic Serif fonts are too small to make out on a screen.
sans-serif Isn’t suitable at all for printing
I’m not saying this from personal point of view
I have crossed check some systems one of them only was using sans-serif
I ‘ve asked the users ( 9 users ) about the interface & the reports & printouts
Mostly agreed that it’s not practical at all even more worse
Regarding the pixels it’s very simple , zooming in/out is fine and more than fine , with good monitor you can easily work with it , I’m using 2k screen and never face issue with the pixels
So in your view, sans-serif fonts were technical necessity due to low screen resolutions in the past but now that pixel density has been increased in modern screens, we should be going back to serif fonts? Is this the argument you are making?
I don’t have a problem with it. However, clearly, some users got used to sans-serif fonts and don’t want to go back to traditional looking serif fonts even if it’s technically possible now. So it seems like this is user preference. Would you agree?
By the way, Apple, who is known to be obsessed with fonts, is using sans-serif font in iPhones. What is your view on that?
I agree with you some systems specially the Arabic software companies may be using sans serif but the more are going for the standards as it’s the mainly used , as sans serif is available before but not used as well
And for the bank example, I believe if we search more you can find out which is commonly used
