…but no codes for the groups… was this always like this or have they been removed?
Group codes were removed in April 2020, as part of the drag-and-drop reordering scheme. See Chart of Accounts - Account's Code.
Previously, their only function was ordering groups in the chart of accounts. Now that is unnecessary. If you want group codes, put them directly into the names. (Only the Equity group can be renamed on the balance sheet.)
Account naming flexibility happened at the same time.
