Update Software

Had a brain fart and totally forgot how to update to latest version with my businesses automatically installed. Help Please

If you are using desktop app, you need to download the latest version and reinstall on your PC to over-write the old version, but if you are using cloud version, the update is automatic upate

The data folder is separate from the program folder.
So

  • create an external backup of your data (so you can go back if the update causes issues for you)
  • Update the program (desktop or server)
  • Your data should now be available from the new program

Hi Patch

Thanks for response. When you say Update the program I assume you mean download from website. The businesses and data do not seem to automatically transfer over to the updated download. I was sure they did previously.

Please describe what you are using → Operating system, Manager version number, Manager program type (desktop, server, Cloud / NG Software hosted server).

Please also describe exactly what you are doing and are seeing. This is best done with screen shots. This is important because although you know what you have done and exactly what you are seeing, no-one else can see your screen. Guessing is often wrong.

Hi Patch

Happy New Year. I am using macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 going to the Manager website and downloading Manager. My existing version is 23.8.25.1002. desktop version (I think do not know difference between desktop & server) I am sure that when I did this previously it automatically transferred my Businesses with their data to the new version and I just installed the new version into applications and it replaced the old one. When I do it now the new version opens but no businesses. Sorry no screen shots but I think my decription says it all.

Hi Patch Interesting I just had a look at the versions on the website and my version 23.8.25.1002 does not
seem to be listed. Is that possible

@Buettel2, you were literally 999 versions behind. During that time, the default location of the application data folder changed. So the program is now looking in an empty folder for your data.

You need to add your businesses back by importing them. To do that, you need to navigate to the old location. Don’t worry, your data is not lost. You just need to tell the program where to look for it.

This was addressed in this topic: Lost business files when updating to Manager v24.3.5.1340. (About 700 updates ago.)

In addition to @Tut’s reply also ensure that you download the correct version for your Apple computer. The big blue "free download" button at https://www.manager.io/download is for newer Macs with M1/M2 (apple silicon) processors and the normal alternative hyperlink just below that is for the older Intel-based Macs.

Very strange I know the facts prove me wrong but I was 100% sure I updated about 6 months ago. Thank you for your input I will now try and fix it.

The best way to install Manager on a Mac is to drag and drop the downloaded Manager file to the Applications folder and allow it to over-write the existing version. Check you applications folder because you may have duplicates including your expected update of 6 months ago.

In any case when reporting issues follow the advice at FAQ - Manager Forum that says:

Manager advances very quickly, simplifying and adding features and capabilities. Sometimes, bugs occur with new releases. But these are usually fixed rapidly, often within minutes. So if you encounter a problem with the desktop or server editions, update Manager , even if you recently did. (The cloud edition is always up to date.) You can check the latest version at https://www.manager.io/desktop/download/ .

A little bit confused. I think I did it and all seemed to be OK. However the version indicated on my new version is 24.12.31.2001. If I go to the website and click releases I get

wich indicates version 24.12.6.1968

???

Not every release is listed on that page. The only time releases are noted there is when they incorporate changes sensible to the user.

Hi Tut and Happy New Year. Thank you for clarification. I do not understand it but just to confirm is the version I now have 24.12.31.2001 the current version and how would I know?

No, it is no longer current. The number of the current version is displayed on the download page.

So how you can know that you have the current version, is by checking the version number displayed at the bottom of you your screen, with the version number on the website.

(I have not yet updated so that is why the two numbers are not the same.)
