Advice would be appreciated for a huge jump between these desktop versions. Would you advise intermediate updates or just back up before installing latest version.
Also is it any safer to move to cloud from 22.1.1?

Welcome to the forum.
You could start by going through the official releases page to see what exactly was changed since your latest version.
However, updates to the page resumed this month so you may need to do some search of this forum or do some experimentation with the newer versions. You can find these on:

Please be advised to keep an spare backup outside of the datafolder and use Add Business>
Importto restore your backups so that your backups don’t get upgraded. This will enable you to roll back, otherwise you will get locked on the latest version with which you opened your data files.
