Update file problem

In the last couple days, I see the Manager update file being offered is a .msix file rather than a .msi file. Anyone else having problems trying to launch the .msix files? Any wise helpful words?

Do you have problems opening the file?
This URL explains how to handle .msix file:

Yes, I have trouble opening the file. When I attempt to open it, an empty white dialog box appears for a few seconds and then disappears. Then a another dialog box opens that says “The app didn’t start.”

@elreng33 what is your Windows version. MSIX is supported in Windows 10 (version 1709) or newer.

As mentioned in the link I send you:

What do I do if the App Installer doesn’t open?

Try right-clicking the file and selecting “Open with App Installer.” If that doesn’t work, ensure your Windows is up to date.

Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2
Installed on ‎1/‎27/‎2023
OS build 22631.3958
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1026.0

@elreng33 Your Windows version is fine. I assume the program did install (you saw MSIX installation dialog) but can’t launch the program. Correct?

Can you try the latest version (24.8.9) ? I made some adjustments.

The essential issue is to continue to be able to download a file, d-click that file, and update Manager (which I love, thank you) to the latest version. That used to work fine with the .msi files offered. And now, not so much with the .msix files. I stopped updating when msi offered changed to msix offered. At this point, I seem to have found a complicated work-around to maintain being up to date, but it would be much better to download, d-click, and say OK.
Also, no difference with 24.8.9. Same problem with .msix files.

What anti virus program do you run?

@elreng33 so when you open MSIX file, nothing happens at all? Can you try other MSIX file from another vendor?

For example, try Canva MSIX installer from here: https://www.canva.com/en_au/help/msix-installer/

Just what comes with Windows 11 Pro.

Just updated using new format, worked just fine.

Windows Edition: Windows 10 Home
Version: 22H2
OS Build: 19045.4651

All I did was download from the downloads page, went to File Explorer into downloads, cut the new version and pasted it in the old versions place, right clicked it and pressed Open.

The rest was just standard install though you did add a new window which was nice cause I could see the progress of the install.

The new logo on the task bar looks good too.

When I d-click on a .msix file, I get an empty white dialog box flash by and then a small dialog box that says that the “app didn’t start”. The problem with the canva download is that the file offered is a .msix file is what I cannot open.

@elreng33

Based on the explanation here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/msix/supported-platforms, maybe you need to install MSIX Core

Maybe @lubos is planning to release Manager via Microsoft Store, so he chose to use MSIX bundle.

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, MSIX Core is already installed on my machine.

The problem with the Canva MSIX installer is that the file offered to download is an .msix file which I cannot open at this point.

If it matters to anyone, I found a solution here -

Now. .msix files opens correctly. Thanks to all who helped.

Your welcome.
