I’ve got a trial of the Server edition up and running (Centos/Apache/MODSSL/SSLProxy/Mono). All is working as expected.
QUESTION:
I have hourly backups of the data folder scheduled that write copies of the various *.manage files to AWS S3 (versioned of course). That said, is this sufficient or are the manually created backups via the “Backup” button required if a restore is required?
If the entire data folder is backed up, that is all you need. You will have backup of all businesses. The Backup button produces a copy of the data file within the folder for the specific business being backed up, but gives it a readable name with a date code. The files in the application data folder are hexadecimal hash. The Backup button is really meant more for desktop users or porting businesses from one storage location to another.
Yes all files in the folder actually. If supporting three businesses for example, can just one of the business files be restored using a previous version and all others still work as expected? I just want to make sure there is nothing else to in the 0000000 files that would also need updating/replacing.
The data files are unique to the businesses, containing all accounting data, settings, attachments, etc. The 00000000000000000000000000000000.manager file is an index that tell the program what businesses have been added and where they are.
So you backup and restore businesses individually. And for those sophisticated enough to locate and identify which is which, you could move or replace files in the data folder independently. See this Guide for more info: Manager Cloud
