Quote Tab - Searching / looking for / sorting Quotes

Please can the search and ranking of Quotes be returned to normal when arranging on Date or quote number. Users are having difficulty locating a quote done and accepted say the previous day.
Example : Staff member does quote for client the quote gets accepted. Another staff member says “hey we have someone looking for a similar quote you did yesterday… Who the heck was it for”? “Heck I do not know! You check … it was yesterday, maybe”! Ok scrolling down 15 pages later he finds it.
Big waste of time … if sorted on date / quote number no matter of status the quote will be found fast.
Any thoughts?

Do you mean search isn’t working for Quotes tab?

Search works but clumsy …. read the narrative…
The only thing you have it is accepted in last day or two or rather a recent quote and you are not sure of exact date or status.

What do you mean by “returned to normal?” Also, your subject refers to searching, but your post refers to sorting. You will never be able to find anything in any tab by searching if you do not know your search criterion. And sorting in the Sales Quotes tab works exactly as it does anywhere else in the program, with one exception: Active quotes are always grouped first.

In your scenario, sorting by date (newest to oldest by double-clicking the Date header) would quickly find the relevant quote, assuming it is recognizable from displayed information. Are you really issuing 15 pages of sales quotes in a day?

I still can’t see anything wrong with the search function but I can only infer that the search is working fine but the default sorting of results bothers you.

If it’s just the sorting, you can already sort the list anyway you like Tut said here

In our case quotes expire generally in 14 days - yes there are a lot of quote pages. Call it what you like search or sort I am sure you get the issue either way in the scenario presented.
I am surprised you do not remember how quotes could be sorted by date or quote number. Well that sorting / presentation appears to be very useful to the crew irrespective of quote status.

Just checked a quote created on the 09 September 2021 found on page 16.

Does this mean that when you click on on the date or number headers the sorting doesn’t change?

I couldn’t replicate this. Both the search and sorting work fine with me.

What edition and version are you using? Also, provide some screenshots.

You might think the difference is immaterial, but Search and Sort are very different functions.

I remember very well how the program used to function. And, as I said, it still functions the same way with the exception of grouping Active quotes first. This was a deliberate choice when the ability to monitor sales quote and sales order status was introduced. And it does not interfere with the scenario you describe. Searches are still preserved when sorting. So if you know the quote was accepted, you could search for Accepted quotes, then sort by date. That is actually more capability than existed previously. If you are not sure whether the quote was accepted, you can just sort by date, looking first among Active quotes, then among Accepted. Same thing if you know the reference number (which is highly unlikely if you are on a treasure hunt for an vaguely remembered sales quote).

Just to be clear this is not me making the observation but multiple staff operating in the module. This is what they would find helpful if clicking on Date all quotes arranged in date order if click on quote number all quote rank in order.
So I leave the thought there as it appears not to be an issue to others or they have more time in their part of the world for a game of Manager, lots of clicking.
