Purchase of Server Edition

I want to buy a server edition licence for my client. Can I buy a server edition on by laptop with my credit card and transfer the licence to my client’s server? I understand that I need to install a trial version before I can pay for the licence. Do I have to install the trial version on my client’s server or can I install the trial version on my laptop, enter my credit card details and later and transfer the licence to my client server? Please advise
