I have shortlisted Manager and one other system. Manager is my preferred option but for the black hole of MTD, arrangements for which are vague or non-existent - despite it being essential in only a few months’ time.
Is there a definite undertaking to fill this hole in time, with a direct and authorised connection? An immediate response would be most helpful.
It’s fairly ubiquitous (which is why I relied upon the acronym) - it’s also explained in the very first result of the search facility above! Making Tax Digital.
Given that each jurisdiction seems to follow their own rules on MTD, it would seem that adapting a software package to cover all countries would be pretty expensive and not very profitable
Manager has a few users, working on a voluntary basis as far as I can see, that seem to have enabled MTD for different countries
Well, any country requiring MTD is going to rule out Manager then. If this facility is not going to be implemented in the UK, then my decision is made in favour of a system that does possess this essential feature.
I had looked through all the previous posts and saw this but the response was both vague and late. The lack of any definite statement for what is becoming a pressing deadline was concerning. In fact, it was a bit glib, without any acknowledgement of the possible need for an approved interface. Reliance upon APIs etc isn’t really good enough.
Additionally, the time-line of updates shows a marked decline in frequency. Now this could reflect a diminishing number of remaining facilities to implement but overall, it’s all a bit too thin for me to trust. A pity as, with a computing background, I much prefer desktop solutions.
Yes, thanks. I agree that it is not ideal, especially given the fundamental nature of the requirement. Added to the lack of official response, I’m afraid that I have lost confidence in this system. Pity.
Well, I thought I would have a look anyway. Stuck after two minutes though. Setting up a bank feed provides no clue as to how and the instructions I found is similarly lacking. Why couldn’t “endpoint” have just a little explanation!
Having spent a long time fighting past that, we now have…
In all fairness not even Xero has rolled out their Making Tax Digital for Income Tax solution yet, and that’s the leading UK accounting solution (according to google).
I can’t see an issue with manager being non complaint if it implemented a bridging solution like it did for Making Tax Digital for Value Added Tax (although that also has its issues, I have to use a custom transformation to get the figures correct)
I did take a view on this but then ran into a world of hurt simply trying to establish a bank feed. Despite a technical background and having achieved this on another system in just a minute, hours have been wasted tried to overcome the (not very helpful) error messages.
I posted about this on the forum too but the one reply so far only serves to deepen my conviction that it’s a mess.
As far as I’m aware UK bank feeds are not possible, Manager is primarily an Australian based accounting software, so the feed providers account for Australian providers, but then I’ve never really needed an automatic bank feed, I just upload statements. So I’ve not even tried to find a service provider
@atd: I agree that there the learning curve is sometimes steep, and documentation is not always helpful. At one point I was close to giving up and staying with my then current system. I can understand that you call the system a mess, and at one point I thought so too.
Having said that, I persevered and I now have found my way around it. Once you know a few things the system is very easy to use, and very powerful, at least for my use case.
There are still some quirks that could do with ironing out and I hope they will be addressed in due time, but all in all I am very happy user.
I’m afraid I had to give up. I’ve designed to accounting systems and programmed one personally in the past. It’s really fairly simple to make an intuitive system, requiring minimum documentation. There are complications in the form of MTD and international users but restrictions could be clearly indicated. I’ve started using another system and I’m not exactly enamoured of their UI either but the support is extremely good - and it’s pretty cheap.
