In the last few weeks @lubos confirmed many times that there will be new APIs by the end of 2018. As far as I understood we will be able to have direct access to the database and the possibility to develop custom plugins.
Can @lubos give us a few anticipations on how they will work?

New API is already in the program. It’s currently used by a handful of developers. Documentation should be available within 2 weeks.
