Multi-user support for desktop edition

I love the desktop version because I can keep the files in a portable device which I can carry around where i go. But It doesn’t have Multi User access! So I’m thinking of getting the server edition BUT I cannot carry server edition around or even use dropbox with it right?

If you require to “carry” your accounting files around, why do you need multi-user access then?
