Manager crashes on startup since upgrading to macOS 26.5

Last night I upgraded to macOS 26.5.

Today I haven’t been able to run Manager; it crashes on startup.

I’ve tried logging out and in.

I’ve tried restarting.

I’ve tried the latest version on the Releases page, 26.5.13.3589, and an older version.

I’ve verified that none of the databases are corrupt.

The crash is happening in the main thread of ManagerServer.

I don’t know whether macOS 26.5 was a cause or a coincidence.

Any ideas?

While I wait to see whether the problem is me, my Mac, or macOS, I’ve come up with a workaround.

cd /Users/<user>/Documents/Manager.io/Users/
cp administrator administrator.bak
cd /Applications/Manager.app/Contents/Resources/ManagerServer/
./ManagerServer

Visit http://localhost:5000 in a browser window, assign a password to administrator, and login.

I only copied administrator out of an abundance of caution. When you run ManagerServer it says:

Default username is “administrator”. If you forgot the password, reset it by
deleting /Users//Documents/Manager.io/Users/administrator

I’m running macOS 26.5 and manager.io version 26.5.15.3605. I’m able to open and use manager.io without issues.

Thank you, it was very helpful to know that!

After thinking about the problem and poking around a bit I decided to try this:

mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/Manager ~/Library/Application\ Support/Manager.bak

That worked, and it got me up and running again.

It looks like there was some cached but corrupted state.

This happened again; Manager is crashing on startup. I can run ManagerServer directly, but this time deleting ~/Library/Application\ Support/Manager didn’t fix the problem with the frontend.

OK, I think I found the actual issue.

Under Privacy & Security | Full Disk Access, Manager was toggled off.

I think that happened when I upgraded to 26.5.0 and then again when I upgraded to 26.5.1?

In any event, toggling it back on fixed the problem.

Manager crashed because it couldn’t access its data directory. Running ManagerServer from the command-line worked because ManagerServer inherited permissions from Terminal, and Terminal had access to the directory.

For what it’s worth, it’s very, very unusual that Manager requires Full Disk Access.

On my Mac the only other apps that require Full Disk Access are a backup program; a disk browser program; and a couple of disk usage programs.

Apps that don’t require Full Disk Access include Chrome, Dropbox, Fork (a git client), PyCharm (an IDE), Visual Studio Code (an IDE).

I think there’s a way for Manager to get much more narrowly scoped permissions?
