In the Business details settings of Manager.io we have a field that is Country. It actually means Locale, or language, so we have eg English, and the countries where English is spoken etc. In other words, not all countries are listed which makes it confusing. If possible, we could change this field to read locale, instead of country, so someone can create a custom field, and name it country which will have a list of all the countries in the world that the user can choose from. This will increase clarity and create a better user experience.
Hello again @Aniwene_Madolomani,
That’s not entirely true. Language is a completely different aspect of Manager. To switch the display language, you can do so from the dead bottom center of the webpage.
On the other hand, Country
field appearing under Settings > Business details or when creating a new Business involves localized set of settings for the selected Country.
These include some locale formats like Base Currency
settings as well as localized tax and other regulatory settings. So the term “Country” is more suitable than locale.
Maybe in your case, your country still hasn’t had its localized settings, which might explain the confusion.
Yes you are absolutely correct. I did not find my country Tanzania, which brought the confusion. In addition to that inside the country button the countries are divided per language ie English → etc which brings further confusion. Perhaps we could consider adding “Locale” settings for all countries. Because in the business details page for countries that are not listed, its just a button there with no data saying country which if you add a custom country button they will be two. Kind of tricky when you have a branch in another country and need this field.
Thank you also for clarifying about the language change menu position.
Unfortunately, providing country specific settings for every country is something that’s well beyond the reach of Manager. Manager initially came with support for AU and NZ, which makes sense since Manager is an Australian business.
For other countries, the setup was left to the users to configure until the localizations project was introduced where the community contributed and added more localized country settings.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t any contributions for Tanzania, however, any contributions are welcome.
How can i take part in the contributions,
@Ealfardan you could also consider just changing the field to Locale, instead of Country, because not all countries are listed. It means when a user wants to input a custom Country, they have to create another field, and there will be two fields called country in the business settings.
Users are allowed to create Custom Fields with any name they like and it wouldn’t clash with system fields because Custom Fields are distinctly separated from system fields:
Also, users can create custom fields in any name they like, but that doesn’t justify changing the software terminology to accomodate for such small probabilty otherwise, the system would not be able to use simple words, which wouldn’t be user friendly.
