Editing the names of the 4 accounts so their function is clear, appears to be a sensible solution to me.
You are missing the point. It was much neater in previous versions when the dropdown showed the categories. It was also much quicker. Whatever @lubos changed recently regarding these dropdowns is experienced as some major step-back rather than forward. I also do not think that the advice to just changing names is acceptable as it could be many more and different ones than those @Brucanna listed and this is prompted due to changes in Manager that were not requested and should be reversed.
Check the version (21.3.82). The dropdown will show category names now. Itās not exactly the same look but should be good enough.
In sales invoices is now fine, thanks. I hope that this will be consistently implemented in for example Fixed Assets, Inventory and Non-inventory, and most importantly Journal Entries. Many thanks!
Have a look how itās implemented in journal entries because thatās the way forward.
Thanks, as per the screenshot below it now shows Receivables, Inventory, etc which in itself is clear and follows the account numbers sort order. The only problem is the sluggishness of scrolling that now happens with sometimes long waits (spinning). Obviously when typing the code or for example interest this is not an issue, but when scrolling it is much slower than before.
Is it long wait or does it spin forever?
Sometimes long wait, sometimes forever, is inconsistent. Happens in all places where you changed this.
Will this fix the problem when you are selecting an item that is in both inventory and non-inventory to be able to distinguish which one is which.
I only checked as @lubos asked the implementation in Journal entries. There you do not select inventory or non-inventory items only accounts. It is not implemented yet on inventory and non-inventory account settings.
What is an inventory only account?
Sorry meant Inventory Items (tab)
What are you referring to? The discussion in this topic is about account selection, not item selection. Items, whether inventory or non-inventory, are distinguished during selection by name and/or code.
You are correct. I was referring to Item selection. Another problem that I have encountered is identical products in non-inventory and inventory items as some items I purchase for the company and other times I will buy the exact same item to sell to a client.
Surely the āidenticalā products were created by you?
Why not give them unique names?
If you want, you can use Inventory Write off to record the use of Inventory Items by the business
Write off inventory | Manager
But this will depend on local tax and accounting considerations
Thatās quite weird. If you are using desktop edition, can you try within web-browser by going to http://localhost:55667 while Manager is running and see if you can reproduce the issue in the web-browser?
I am using server version.
Because in many cases, it would be difficult to come up with unique names that would be clear.
For example HDMI 2M cable is something that I have in both inventory and non-inventory. I need the same product code to find the cable on the supplierās website.
Why canāt the drop down have the name and next to it Inventory or Non-Inventory as shown in the post by Eko?
