I think reports not flexible enough to satisfy all needs
The reports will never be flexible enough to satisfy ALL needs
As long as they cover most users needs, that is all that can expected
you have to see what customer needs and satisfy you have to keep upgrade frequently
Built‑in reports are fairly fixed. The good news is Manager now has two flexible ways to get exactly what you want:
- Advanced Queries (per‑tab): From any tab (e.g., Sales Invoices), use Advanced Queries to Select columns, add Where filters, Order by, and Group by. You can save and print the result like a report. This is the main path for ad‑hoc and tab‑specific reporting now.
- Report Transformations (for financial statements and other standard reports): Create reusable variants of Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, etc., with your own filtering/grouping/layout; you can even add custom processing steps. Use these when you need the same formatted report every period.
Notes and recent changes
- “Custom Reports” have effectively evolved into Advanced Queries; if you were using older custom reports, you’ll get more capability by moving to Advanced Queries.
- Older “classic” custom fields aren’t fully compatible with old custom reports; Advanced Queries work with the current Custom Fields model for reporting.
- You can always copy a report’s table to a spreadsheet via the Export/Copy to clipboard option if you want to do further analysis in Excel.
Am I remembering incorrectly or did @lubos recently write that Report Transformation will be discontinued?
it’s possible It didn’t go through my eyes. And if so, thanks for correcting it.
By the way, the option of Report Transformation is still active in the settings.
If that were the case, it is not a wise recommendation to use the Report Transformation function, as its implementation demands significant effort. One risks losing everything in a short span. Perhaps @lubos should provide clarification.
