How to modify Key

Hi guys.
If you batch update and copy the clipboard to excel, there will be a “key” column.
How to modify the key and update the result into MANAGER? I have tried to modify and copy paste it back to the MANAGER, but the modification is not recognized by MANAGER.
Short story, I have several companies with the same “master data” such as inventory items, customers, suppliers. And it is easier for me to batch create invoices from excel if keys are the same for all of the companies.

Thank you,
Henry

You can’t update the key because it’s the id of the transaction. If you change that in batch update, Manager will fail to find that transaction.

However, it’s possible to do batch create and force the key that you like but this will create duplicates and also give you lots of orphaned entries. Which isn’t good.

I’m just curious, why would you need to change the keys?

I believe you can’t force the key by using batch create, because there is no key column.

Result after trying:
Yes you are right Ealfardan. I was able to force the key by using batch create.
First, I batch update and export to excel and then I delete all old data and leave only new data that I want to batch create. Finally I batch create in MANAGER. the key is the same.

But I can’t modify the old data’s key.

If you batch create, for example sales invoice, you need to input key instead of inventory item names and customer names.
After replacing the inventory names, customer names with corresponding keys in the excel, then I batch create in the MANAGER.
Since I have three companies with the same customers, inventory items, and suppliers. therefore whenever I want to batch create from the data that has been in excel, I have to export inventory items three times, find and replace the inventory names with corresponding keys, and then batch create.
So, if I only had the same keys, I don’t need to maintain three database.

Why don’t you use one business file and 3 divisions?

I can’t, because they are separate companies.

Alright.
Thanks guys , I believe I can apply @Ealfardan 's solution to my problem.

Glad I could help.
