Change of printing window between versions

Hello Team,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum section. Please move it to the correct spot.

After updating to version 25.9.18.2789 I have just spent over 2 hours trying to fix the printing issue I have come across. Not only has the layout for Manager been changed but it has also affected how my prints are coming out.

You used to have the ability to adjust settings on the left hand side of the print screen but now all those settings are gone along with the print text showing up at only 70% of what it used to be. This is not a ‘make larger’ issue as I have tried enlarging it, the font size, gaps between the sections and even my logo have shrunk in size. This all happened after updating to the latest version. I have absolutely no idea what prompted the changes to the print screen from manager, but it is not as easy to use.

The below image is taken from another section in the forums just for clarification of what the screen used to look like and it belongs to the original owner.

All the settings on the right hand side used to be on my left hand side but it gave me lots of options

When it prints, it takes up about 1/3rd of the page but the older version takes up over half the page.

The newer one is much harder to read as the size is too small. I have reinstalled the driver to the printer and no change to the print. I printed the older invoice only a couple of days ago. I updated Manager today. If you are able to provide me with a troubleshooting list, I will work through it and see if that helps. I have had no problems for about 12 months until now.

Thanks for any and all help

PS I tried to add a total of 3 images but was unable to do so. The other 2 images were: new print preview screen and a photo of the 2 different prints side by side to see how much of a difference there was in size.

Desktop edition is now based on Electron which doesn’t come with print preview dialog so it needs to be built ground up.

There was an issue with printing from desktop edition when using RTL language (e.g. Arabic) but this has been now fixed in the latest version (25.9.21)

Better if you show screenshots from the current version what’s wrong so it can be fixed/improved.

Hello Lubos,

This issue I am having is that the page length in your files is way too long for printing which is causing the print to shrink down in size to compensate for a standard page size (A4).

The below image shows the print dialogue box:

When I click print goes straight to the windows dialogue box of selecting a printer instead of just printing directly. This is very annoying and slows down printing on a massive scale because I now have to click print, then print every time I want to print. With your previous dialogue box, I only had to click the print button and the printer started printing immediately, not having to check what printer was selected then having to click print from yet another dialogue box.

When I click print from this screen I get this:

I have no control over the settings that used to be available from your old dialogue box which limits what I can adjust.

Below is a photo of before the update and after the update prints.

The one on the left is the print from before the update which filled over 50% of the page and the one on the right is after the update which covers only 33% of the page. I even tried saving as a PDF then printing from the PDF but got the same result.

This makes the prints very hard to read compared to the previous prints and it is not a viable option for record keeping purposes. The last 3 times I have updated Manager I have had random odd errors which occur in the system. One of them made me have to reenter at least 15 records from 2017 of purchases because it had a random glitch. I need the printed pages in case of data errors on the computer I have a hard copy to work from and to help if a Tax Audit occurs.

Please let me know of any troubleshooting steps I can apply and will let you know how each goes as I apply them to help narrow down the issue of shrunken prints.

Thanks

I don’t have a solution to this yet however it is just one extra click no?

There seem to be 3 differences which make the one on the right more compact:

  • page margins are larger on the left one
  • Unit price is split into two lines on the left one
  • The left one has two line items, the right one just one.

Now, as for upgrading causing changes. The newer versions are making themes self-contained so that future versions will have zero impact on how your documents look when printed.

Hello Ludos,

Yes, it is just 1 click, but when you are printing: Multiple Invoices, Multiple Receipts, Multiple Production Orders, Multiple Delivery Notes, this 1 extra click turns into lost minutes very fast. If you are working on a solution to this issue, that is good news.

The 3 differences:

Page Margins: I cannot change this. They are the margins set by the software before the printer receives it. This is exactly the same printer as I was using for the 2 prints. The difference in page margins would be how Manager is now handling files

Unit Price: If you look carefully at the difference in height between the PayID line, you will find the page margins and unit price do not make that difference.

Even with the 2 line items: Look at the line that says: Includes GST. You can see a distinct difference in font size between the 2. This font sizing is the issue in print. I have no idea how to increase the font size for printing reasons.

I understand that the margins can have an effect, but the logo itself is smaller and the font is smaller.

It is acting as though the page is much larger than a standard page before printing. Even when I look at the PDF File, the pdf file has the same amount of blank page at the bottom of it. The previous prints used to be very easily readable. I am hoping there is some work around to fix this because then I can get this setting back every time the system has a change to it. But if not then this could be a big problem later.

Actually page margin is defined in the custom theme. Default is 20mm but you can create custom theme and change it to 30mm if you want larger page margin.

Basically every aspect of the printed document can be customized this way.

Hello Lubos,

I was not aware of any changes that could be made like this that affected the print.

Can I change:

Font Size

Gaps between sections of the layout (company information distance from description, gap between logo and company information, etc)

Company Logo Size

Page Name Size (Invoice, Receipt, Production Order)?

If I can adjust all of these, are these settings static that will not change during updates?

This would help so much if I can get the settings set up properly so nothing changes in updates.

Hello Lubos,

Just checking in to see if you have had a chance to read my latest reply.

I have no idea how to use any of the coding behind Manager and I am sure many others would like to know how to adjust this to fix the printing issues found with tiny writing.

Please provide step by step instructions for adjusting this.

Thanks
