Cannot open .manager files directly

In the past (in Windows at least) one could open a .manager file directly by double-clicking the file or following the Open With dialog but it doesn’t seem possible anymore. This was useful for opening old backups rather than importing the business file using the Add Business > Import Business dialog in Manager and then having to remember to remove it again.

Manager isn’t listed as one of the Windows Apps and one cannot browse to its installation location as it’s locked by Windows.

The only other option is to follow the Change Data Folder menu item and temporarily use the folder with the .manager file one wants to open and then change it back to one’s main working folder.

I also tried to run Manager by extracting the appx file and running the manager.exe but that still didn’t allow the direct opening of the .manager files and merely opened the default Data Folder.

Thank you I have had this problem for ages and no one seems to be able to help , theres no app icon either .

Not sure if this helps you but I had to keep opening the launcher. these are the instructions I got

Create the Manager desktop icon (guaranteed method)

Method 1 (fastest – do this first)

  1. Press Windows key + R

  2. Type:

    shell:AppsFolder

  3. Press Enter

You’ll see a window with all installed apps.

  1. Find Manager

  2. Right-click Manager

  3. Click Create shortcut

  4. Click Yes
(Windows will place it on the desktop)

:white_check_mark: You now have a Manager icon on your desktop
:white_check_mark: No installer popup
:white_check_mark: Opens Manager directly

If you prefer pinning (optional but handy)

After the icon appears:

  • Right-click the Manager desktop icon

  • Pin to taskbar or Pin to Start

Important things to remember (so this doesn’t happen again)

  • :cross_mark: Ignore .apex files — installer only

  • :check_mark: Always open Manager from the icon

  • :check_mark: Open .manager client files inside Manager

Your file:

ASAP Handy .manager
