I will describe what I mean in an example.
I buy a tissue bundle containing 6 rolls and then I sell it to a customer.
Sometimes the Customers buys it in rolls instead of bundles.
I generated an inventory kit which consists of 1/6 of a bundle, but the value will change to 0.16667. I don’t mind this. The thing is, when I sell 6 rolls to a client, the inventory will show that I sold 1.00002 bundles instead of 1 bundle. Thus the total quantity on hand will also contain decimals.
Can I make the software to round the quantity so t does not contain any decimals?
No, you cannot. Search the forum for many, many discussions about buying in batches and selling in units. Essentially, you have two choices:
- Record your purchases by the unit, even though you buy in larger batches.
- Create two inventory items, one for a unit quantity and one for a batch quantity, and use production orders to convert batches to units.
Although your approach of using inventory kits for things like this is functional (except for the rounding problems), that is not what inventory kits were designed for. They are meant for multiple inventory items purchased and stored separately but sometimes sold together. An example is a nut and a bolt. You can sell them separately or as a kit.
Why not doing the opposite? Register an item as a roll and a kit of 6 items, ie 6 rolls?
I buy the tissue in boxes ad sell them again in boxes. Also it is easier to track with boxes instead of rolls. I sometimes receive a purchase order with unit in Rolls and that’s why I have sometimes to break the box into 6 items and then sell the 6 items together. I will follow what tut suggested by doing a production orders. Thanks For both of your suggestions.
So production order is the best way.
By the way, Do you happen to know if it is possible to show the item unit in a separate column? For example, right know the column for QTY shows: 12 Box.
That is not possible.
