Does the API currently work Manager Desktop? Work on programming a code to sync online store orders directly and add it to the program I hope there will be an update that supports that. I saw a post that it would be possible to support desktop edition too in 2018 
It works but you need a username and password. In order to achieve this, you need to workaround the fact that Desktop edition has no user access control by doing this:
You don’t need to buy the server edition, you just need to reset the password once and you will be good to go
