I wish there can an option of allowing or disallowing negative Inventory in the application. Some clients may allow while others may disallow. You should have the flexibility of allowing or disallowing negative inventory quantities.

Or… Back Order Column in + value optional if the inventory qty reached 0 the back order will start being use. But then it will affect the costing calculation.
A back order column wouldn’t affect costing calculations as it would be only a numeric field.
Only actual purchases can affect the costing calculation.
