Wrong deilvery status for inventory delivery in the Sales order Tab

Manager is currently showing the wrong delivery status in the Sales Order tab.

The status is expected to display “Partially Delivered.” I’m not entirely sure if my memory serves me right, but I believe we previously had the statuses “Pending,” “Partially Delivered,” and “Delivered.”

In the image above, the delivery status shows “Delivered,” but the delivery is actually not complete, as shown in the picture below when you drill down into the “Reserved Qty” amount

Love Glue 120ml and Love Glue 38ml still have outstanding quantities to be delivered. I discovered this while looking for a column in the Sales Order tab that shows the pending delivery quantity for each specific order.

I expected to see another column titled “Quantity to Deliver,” where Love Glue 120ml would show 1 pc outstanding and Love Glue 38ml would show 2 pcs outstanding. Therefore, the delivery status should display as Amber (Partially Delivered) instead of Delivered.

@Lubos, please also consider introducing a “Quantity to Deliver” column in the Sales Order tab within the Quantity Reserved drill-down view to provide a quick overview of the outstanding quantity to deliver for each item for that specific order. If the Quantity reserved column is playing that roll then it needs a fix as.

On sales orders, Delivery Status actually reflects whether there is remaining Qty reserved.

Qty reserved can be cleared in two ways:

  • by delivering the sales order
  • by invoicing the sales order

Once either happens, the reservation created by the sales order is considered resolved, so the sales order becomes effectively “done”.

Why?

  • If inventory is delivered before invoicing, the quantity moves from Qty reserved to Qty to invoice
  • If inventory is invoiced before delivery, the quantity moves from Qty reserved to Qty to deliver

So the obligation is not lost. It simply moves to a different tracking state.

This is why sales orders do not need to be delivered individually. Once invoiced, the system still tracks the obligation to deliver through Qty to deliver on both the customer level and inventory item level.

The sales order itself is really just a mechanism for reserving inventory. It does not affect the general ledger or create physical inventory movements.

Because of that, Delivery Status is probably unfortunate naming. Something like Reservation Status would be more accurate, for example:

  • Reserved
  • Partially Reserved
  • Completed

Or

  • Reserved
  • Partially Processed
  • Processed

This also aligns better with the inventory item figures, where the important metric is Qty reserved - meaning quantities ordered by customers that have not yet been invoiced or delivered.

I’d say let’s discuss this within the context of idea where Delivery Status should be replaced for Reservation Status or something that better conceives the concept.
