Why does Average cost change after selling and need Recalculation?

Hello
buy 2 items for 100$ each, now Average cost is 100$
sell one of them, now Average cost is 200$ unless i press Recalculate
Why? I thought i would only need to Recalculate when i buy the item or add cost to it, not when i sell it

You have to recalculate because selling an item does change the average cost per unit.

I dont think (selling an item does change the average cost per unit) makes sense in any accounting logic/theory.
I updated from an old version of manager and it wasn’t like this. Is there any workaround? we look at unit costs very frequently and this would cause many mistakes because somebody forgot to press recalculate

so two questions:

  1. Is there any workaround
  2. Which user permission enables the Recalculate button? i let a user use the inventory tab but he cant use the Recalculate button, it is there but pressing it brings up a text saying you dont have permission

Hello @Inspire,

Unfortunately, there’s no workaround at this point in time.

However, the Recalculate button is now showing in more places than before.

The developer has hinted that he isn’t a 100% satisfied with how recalculation feels, but there doesn’t seem to be a final end-all-be-all solution floating around.

Anyway, my best recommendation so far is to Recalculate regularly --maybe once a day – and also at cut off dates for interim reports every month end or so.

Thanks for the reply
Do you know which specific user permission allows a user to operate this button? i tried some ones that seemed related but non of them gave the permission

From Settings > User Permissions, you should check the box from Settings > :check_box_with_check: Inventory Unit Costs

i dont have that option

Near the bottom, you will have a :check_box_with_check: Settings checkbox.

Check it and you will have a sub menu that contains Inventory Unit Costs

Thank you I found it and it works
