Switching desktop edition to Electron platform

Sorry if these items have already been discussed - thread is getting busy, lmk if these are preferred in their own thread. I’m testing on 25.8.30.2729 on Win11.

Right-Click Context Menu - Back/Forward Navigation

I’m 99% sure pre-electron when you’d right-click anywhere on the “page” you’d have Back/Forward navigation available (in the proper context). This is no longer the case and my muscle memory sorely misses it.

Option to Open Attachments in External Handler

Sorry if this is a duplicate of other feedback (consider it a vote if so). I do miss being able to open attachments like PDFs and other files that Electron doesn’t handle in an external program (easily). I mean electron is … fine … this is just a preference. A togglable option or setting would be desirable, even if it’s not the default.

It was also convenient pre-electron that attachments would be dynamically downloaded to %TEMP%\Manager\BusinessName - they were easy to find once opened.

Is the desktop version still facing this issue?

Fancy new, I guess, something called “Electron platform” but Reports Supplier Statements (Transactions) still not working properly!

Two feature requests

  1. Please implement Tab Cloning/Duplicating with Ctrl + Shift + K (Windows shortcut).
  2. Please make middle-clicking on attachments open in a new tab.

Background

Windows Manager Desktop, tested absence of features in 25.9.6.2743

Tabbing in Manager is very nice but it’s now training me to use Manager as a web browser. This is one keyboard shortcut/feature that doesn’t exist.

Use Case Example

The one time I can recall where this would have been very “natural” is I was doing a bank reconciliation I think and was out of balance. I want to open the statement in a new tab. Middle click the attachment - doesn’t do anything, just activates the scroll cursor.

Ctrl + Shift + K to duplicate the tab also does nothing.

(Workaround) I middle-click the bank reconciliations in the menu into a new tab, then view the bank reconciliation record, then click on the attachment to open it in the renderer.

Added to the latest version (25.9.8)

This is not specifically related to desktop edition. Attachments are buttons instead of hyperlinks which is why tabbing doesn’t work. I’m planning to rectify this in near future so that tabbing works on attachments too.

and emails and attachment in new versions foe desktop manager

I connected to the server edition using the local IP 192.168.0.1:8080 before, but after switching to the new Electron platform, I can’t connect to it anymore.

we face problem in printing invoices cutted one side

how we can fix it ??

Yes, I’m getting the same error as with the RTL document.

Opening the manager in your browser might be a solution. Right-click the Summary tab, select Copy Link, and then paste it into your browser. You can try printing from there.

I use Manager on latest linux mint (ubuntu) and for me Manager is loading very slow. It can take 20 seconds or more before the interface appears. Thereafter the speed is ok, but initial loading is superslow. Anything i can do to improve this?

@muneer6965 the issue with content not fitting the page when printing Arabic in desktop edition has been fixed in the latest version (25.9.21)

@lubos I would like to confirm something about this new desktop version. In the previous version, after launching the Manager application, we could use a browser to open Manager. I preferred opening it in a browser because the themes and scripts I created functioned exceptionally well when accessed this way. The printer functionality in the browser was particularly essential for me, as it accurately displayed the HTML layout. In the old version, we could use http://localhost:55667 or http://127.0.0.1:55667, including for the API endpoint. The port used remained constant each time we opened Manager in the browser. However, with this new version, I always have to check which port Manager is using, as it seems to change every time the application is launched. Will the new desktop version continue to operate this way in the future?

Oh @lubos, I revisited the history in this thread and discovered this. Is this one of the methods to ensure the Desktop Manager consistently uses port 55667?

Yes it is. But you can also right click on any link within desktop edition, select Copy link option and then paste it into web-browser.

Also, what is desktop edition missing in the very latest version so that you need to revert to web-browser? In the latest version, printing from desktop edition has been greatly improved to match web-browser behavior.

I am using the latest version, 25.9.21.2806. The reason I prefer using a browser is that I modify so much the layout of the themes I create. Currently, printing directly from the desktop edition does not yet accommodate the capabilities as printing from browser. One such feature is the background image. I incorporate a background image into my theme. This image is attached to the menu folder in the Manager, and I use its attachment URL as URL Source of the image (the URL I copy starting from the /view-attachment?###### part). As seen in one of the Sales Quotes I am using:

This is an example of how it appears when I print it using a browser:

I will need to look at mechanics but this should be supported. Perhaps you should be able to attach images to theme itself and then use placeholders. This way theme would be self-contained rather than relying on URLs which can break overtime.

Other than this, is there anything else which desktop edition doesn’t support well?

I have already tried it, but there are certain dynamic conditions for styling in my theme when the background image I have is stored as a placeholder image. I have attempted it, and the most fitting solution for my issue is to set the image as a background image. The background image I am using is essentially a white blank page with a static header of my company information, sized to fit an A4 page. This is merely to facilitate my layout arrangement without having to extensively alter the theme.

For now, that is the only issue on my end. I will inform you if I encounter any other problems. Thank you for your hard work, @lubos.

That’s fine. If you have multiple background images and there is some conditional logic, this would be supported too.

It would be preferable if it even supported multiple background images.
